StatHero is an innovative daily fantasy sports (DFS) platform that focuses on the essence of DFS sites—strategy, analysis, gameplay, and player skill, rather than pitting you against the experts and sharks.

If there’s a DFS platform where you can dip your toes in the water and not get them chewed off by the pros of the industry, it’s StatHero. You are playing directly against the team that StatHero picked. It’s your lineup and players against theirs.

StatHero offers three game modes: Head to Head, Survivor, and Pick’em, which we’ll go over in more detail below.

New users are eligible for a 50% deposit match bonus up to $250 using when registering using StatHero promo code ODDS.

In this StatHero review, we go over how to use the promo code to get the sign-up bonus, the types of contests available, sports offered, payment methods, and much more.

StatHero Promo Code & Sign-Up Bonus

New customers can claim StatHero’s 50% deposit match sign-up bonus up to $250 by using StatHero promo code ODDS during registration.

To receive the full $250 bonus, you’ll have to deposit $500. If you deposit $100, for example, you’ll receive $50 in site credit.

Once the deposit is cleared, the bonus funds should appear in your account within 24 hours. Note that you can only withdraw the bonus after you play it in cash contests.

The StatHero welcome bonus is more valuable than any other DFS sites' promo besides OwnersBox, which offers a 100% deposit match up to $500

How to Use the StatHero Promo Code for the Sign-Up Bonus

To take advantage of the StatHero welcome bonus, you must register on the platform and insert the promo code ODDS when making a deposit.

Here’s the entire process, broken down into simple steps:

  1. Go to StatHero and hit the yellow Register Now button in the upper right corner of the page.
  2. Enter your email address and create a username and password at least eight characters long, containing one uppercase letter, one number, and one special character.
  3. Fill out the rest of the form with the personal information needed for account verification.
  4. Once you sign in, click the yellow “Deposit” button in the top right corner, select the deposit amount, and enter the ODDS promo code in the appropriate section.
  5. Complete the deposit process, and the funds will automatically be credited to your account within 24 hours.

Important Information About the StatHero Sign-Up Bonus

  • Deposit requirements. The minimum deposit you can make is $5. You can deposit more than $500, but the maximum amount of the bonus is $250.
  • Expiration date. The bonus funds will expire 30 days after they enter your account.
  • Playthrough requirement. You must play through your initial deposit and deposit bonus' cash equivalent before withdrawing the deposit amount. Cash deposits are held in escrow until they are put into play. Say you get $100 in bonus funds after depositing $200, put $100 in a contest, and win. Your balance now reads $400—the initial $200 plus $200 in winnings. You’ll have to play a total of $200 ($100 cash + $100 bonus) before you can withdraw. Even if you lose, you’ll still need to wager the cash deposit before withdrawing.
  • Eligibility: All new players who are at least 18 years old and coming from 32 U.S. states can register and claim the bonus.

StatHero Review

StatHero was launched in 2018 by Jason Jaramillo, who had the idea of transforming the traditional fantasy sports betting market into one that offers a higher win rate to the players. According to Jaramillo, traditional DFS sites win around 85% of the time, whereas StatHero’s win rate is between 45% and 60%.

From a business perspective, StatHero compensates for the significant winning margin of its players with a 20% commission, which is twice the amount the other DFS sites charge. Still, players are willing to pay a higher hosting fee for a bigger chance to win.

Another big twist regarding StatHero is that you are not competing against expert players using complex algorithms, but rather the platform and a predetermined roster of your choosing. Each contest will have a different lineup of players to choose from to make your squad within the designated salary cap and stake. Should your players outscore the ones in the StatHero lineup, you win. StatHero posts its lineup early in the day, so you always know what you are up against.

In the lineup formats, you can also fill the MVP slot with a player of your choice who will earn 1.5x fantasy points—a nice twist that is unique to StatHero.

StatHero is the only DFS site with the Survivor mode—a contest where you try to beat the site’s lineup round after round and get paid after each.

The professional competitions available at StatHero include the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, PGA, and MMA.

The biggest drawback of StatHero is that it takes a 20% cut from contests. This is a bit higher than other sites, like FanDuel DFS, which takes around 10%. With that being said, since you aren’t competing against experts, it’s easier to win than on platforms like FanDuel.

StatHero can also be a bit hard to navigate when you start playing. Once you get used to it, however, it should be pretty easy to get around.

Still, StatHero is one of the best DFS sites currently available—especially if you prefer playing games based on player stats against the house or Survivor mode.

StatHero DFS Game Types

StatHero features three unique types of contests: Head-to-Head, Survivor, and Pick’em. Each of these comes with unique benefits for both skilled and novice players.

The minimum play for Pick’em is $1, while the maximum stake per contest is $5,000. The limit goes from $5 to $1,500 for Head-to-Head games.

Head-to-Head

Head-to-Head contests are the lifeblood of StatHero. They are daily contests between the player and StatHero.

The platform releases lineups for each of the sports offered on a daily or weekly basis. These lineups are structured following the same salary cap limitations as your own. Once you make your picks and form a team, the tickets will be locked, and no additional edits will be allowed. The tickets for H2H contests are, therefore, non-refundable.

If your lineup beats StatHero’s, you win. If StatHero’s lineup wins, you lose your entry.

Besides the basic Head-to-Head contest format, there is also the Multiplier format you can activate at the top right corner of the contest card. The odds, in that case, are handicapped based on the salary cap offered to the player compared to the one provided to StatHero.

The cap difference is always displayed; the greater the difference, the bigger the payouts. If you face a more expensive StatHero lineup and win, you can potentially take home a 10:1 payout.

Here are some screenshots of Head-to-Head (click to expand):

Pick’em

Pick’em is an even simpler contest format than Head-to-Head. You get to choose one of the two competing lineups that you think will score more fantasy points. A projection is given so you won’t be shooting in the dark.

Also, with the new Pick’em X feature, you can pick from 3 to 8 lineups you think will win and increase the payout potential to 30:1 in accordance with the increased risk.

Here are some screenshots of Pick'em (click to expand):

Survivor

The Survivor mode is the most distinctive feature of StatHero. On the surface, it looks like the Head-to-Head format, but the difference is that this mode lasts much longer and has multiple rounds.

In the Survivor mode, you will create a lineup by selecting four or five players from a single team. The only exception to this is round 1, where you can choose one Wildcard player to add from a different team to face StatHero’s lineup.

For each round, you must select a different team and can’t use the same team more than once. The total points from the players on your team are pitted against StatHero’s players, and if you win, you get a payout and advance to the next round.

The great thing about this mode is that you only pay one 20% hosting fee to StatHero for all rounds, no matter how many you get to play.

StatHero Sports Offered

Currently, there are eight professional and college competitions you can bet on, including:

  • NFL
  • NBA
  • MLB
  • PGA
  • NCAAF
  • NCAAB
  • NHL
  • MMA

In the future, we expect soccer, eSports, and other sports competitions to be added to the list.

Signing Up for StatHero DFS

If you are from Alabama or Nebraska, you must be at least 19 years old to join StatHero. If you are coming from Arizona or Massachusetts, you must be 21 or older to be eligible to join the DFS platform. For all other states, the minimum age requirement is 18.

The account registration procedure is straightforward and goes as follows:

  1. Visit the StatHero website or download the proprietary app from Google Play or the App Store.
  2. Hit the Register Now button.
  3. Complete the registration form by supplying personal details such as full name, date of birth, email address, home address, and phone number.
  4. Make a deposit and play on.

Here are screenshots of the StatHero sign-up process (click to expand):

StatHero Deposit & Withdrawal Methods

StatHero accepts all major credit and debit cards, such as Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express, as deposit methods. As for payouts, the players can choose direct deposit, physical checks, or electronic checks.

Deposits are usually instant, whereas withdrawals can take between 2 and 10 business days, depending on the payment method.

How Much of a Cut StatHero Takes

Transparency is at the heart of StatHero’s business model. The commission fee is 20% on cash entries per contest. That is about 10% more than any other platform charges. However, StatHero justifies this by claiming that players win 45% – 60% of the time, considerably more often than on any other platform.

StatHero User Experience

StatHero offers both a desktop website and a mobile application. Both platforms could use some improvements, in my opinion. The game menu should be more intuitive, and the game mode icons are relatively small and easy to miss.

Let’s go over desktop and app performance in more detail:

StatHero Desktop User Experience

You first notice the cluttered homepage with large icons and relatively slow loading times. As you scroll down, the team logos will appear before the images of players, indicating the slow loading.

Also, there isn’t a home button on the site. The StatHero logo, which one would think serves the purpose of getting you back to the homepage, does not do so.

Moreover, entering contests is not easy at all. You must select the contest and the sport before clicking on the individual positions in the lineup to pick players. The good thing is that a blue bonus dollar sign will appear to indicate if bonus play is allowed.

StatHero Mobile App User Experience

The same subpar experience is seen in the StatHero app. The apps are slow to load and the icons are oversized. On certain occasions, features such as live scoring are made available; in other instances, they are not.

Still, it’s worth noting that the developer is coming up with regular updates and bug fixes that might improve the overall user experience in the future.

Here are some screenshots of StatHero on both mobile and desktop (click to expand):

StatHero Reviews from Players

The player reviews reflect the lackluster support. In the Apple App Store, StatHero has a rating of 4.2 from over 250 reviews, which is just about average. The situation is similar in the Google Play store with an average review rating of 4.1 from over 50 reviews.

Users most often complaint about a slow in-app experience and occasional crashes. On the other hand, customer support and unique game modes are often mentioned as the app’s strongest suits.

StatHero DFS Customer Support

The only way to contact StatHero customer support is by sending an email to [email protected].

It’s a 24-hour support service, but that still doesn’t guarantee agents will be able to respond to your question immediately.
