Horseplay is a hybrid platform that combines racebook and sweepstakes casino elements. It started in 2012 as B Spot and rebranded to Horseplay in April 2023. The new name more accurately reflects the company's business model.

Here are some quick facts about this innovative platform:

  • Winnings in casino games are determined by horse races, not a Random Number Generator, so it’s classified as a racebook and licensed accordingly.
  • Horseplay is available in 17 U.S. states.
  • You need to deposit and play $100 before you can withdraw any Freeplay credits.
  • There’s a demo mode available if you want to try out games without spending money.
  • The minimum purchase is $10, and the minimum withdrawal is $1.
  • The average cashout time is around five days.
  • Horseplay has a native iOS app, but the Android version hasn’t been released yet.
  • You must be 21+ to sign up and play.

The way this platform works is a head-scratcher, even for casino veterans like me. But I’m here to help you quickly get up to speed and figure it out.

The following Horseplay review will explain how the site works, the welcome bonus, and all the information you need to decide if it's right for you.

How Horseplay Works

I don’t usually kick off a review by breaking down how a platform works, but Horseplay is a unique case that needs some early explanation. Getting the basics up front will make everything else about the site much easier to grasp.

At Horseplay, you’re dealing with three different types of virtual currency:

  • Cash: This isn’t “cash” like money in your pocket. It’s more like a middleman currency between your real money and what you use to play the games. So when you buy “Cash,” you’re converting your actual dollars into this intermediary currency.
  • Credit: You can use this to play casino games on the site. You buy “Credits” with your “Cash,” and any winnings from playing with “Credits” are paid back in “Cash,” which you can then withdraw.
  • Freeplay: These are bonus bucks when you purchase “Credits” with “Cash.” In case of a 100% match bonus, you’ll receive an equal amount of Freeplay Credits for every Credit you buy with “Cash.”

One thing to note is that regular and Freeplay credits get lumped together, so there’s no way to tell them apart in the balance tracker.

The big takeaway is that you’re not earning money by playing the games themselves. Instead, your winnings come from the horse race bets you placed while purchasing the credits. The casino games are just a fun way to reveal what you’ve already won from those wagers.

The game outcomes are predetermined based on how your horse bets played out.

Let’s say you won $10 when you bought some credits (you’ll see this in your “Wager Details” invoice). When you hop on a slot game afterward, no matter how you play or what you bet, that slot will pay out $10. The way it dishes out that $10 can vary—it might trigger a bonus round that ends up giving you $10, or you could hit a 5-of-a-kind in the base game worth $10, or it could happen in another way.

Here’s a screenshot from a slot paytable that shows how the payout system works.

How Horseplay Works

Getting Started With Horseplay

If the last section didn’t completely clarify things for you, no worries—I’m here to walk you through it step by step. I went through the whole signup process and took screenshots along the way. I’ll share those with you to make everything easy to follow and help you get started without confusion.

1. Go to Horseplay and Register

Go to the Horseplay homepage and hit “Sign Up,” which will open the registration form. Unlike most sweepstakes casinos, which allow players to register with minimal information, Horseplay requires new players to complete a full ID check.

You’ll need to provide personal details like your name, address, phone number, and the last four digits of your social security number (or whole SSN if you’re from New York).

These extra steps are required because Horseplay is licensed as an advance deposit wagering (ADW) platform, which comes with stricter ID verification rules.

Horseplay Register

2. Go to Horseplay and Register

Once your account is up and running, click on the account menu in the top right corner. From there, under the “Account Balance” dropdown, select the “Deposit” tab to buy Cash.

The minimum buy-in is $10, and the max you can purchase (or bet on) at once is $500.

Horseplay offers deposit options, including instant bank transfers, Play+, and credit or debit cards. I went ahead and deposited $20 using my debit card.

Horseplay Deposit to Get Cash

3. Buy Credits With Cash

Now that you have purchased Cash return to the account menu and open the “Account Balance” dropdown again. This time, select “Buy Credits” and follow the prompts.

At this point, you’re not buying credits. Instead, you’re giving your Cash to Horseplay, and they place a bet on horse races for you. You’ll get credits equal to what you paid for, and any winnings from those horse bets will show up in your “Cash” balance after you’ve played through your credits.

After I bought $20 worth of credits, they appeared in my account almost instantly, even though a pop-up said it could take up to 30 minutes.

Horseplay Buy Credits With Cash

Since I met the minimum deposit requirement of $10 for the welcome bonus, I qualified for a 100% deposit match. About 20 minutes later, I received $20 in Freeplay credits. These Freeplay credits merged with the credits I “won” from the purchase, bringing my total credit balance up to $40.

4. Play Games to Reveal How Much You Won

This step is optional since you can skip the slot games entirely and use up your credits immediately. The casino games are just a fun, interactive way to uncover how much you’ve won from your horse race bets when you purchased credits. If you’d rather skip the gaming process, just go to the account menu, then the “Account Balance” tab, and under “Account History,” hit the “Play All” button.

Horseplay will check with you for confirmation before revealing your betting results.

Horseplay Play Games 2

I wasn’t interested in revealing my winnings that way—I wanted to do it through some slot games instead. After spending $20 in credits, I uncovered $7 in cash that I could’ve cashed out but kept playing.

Horseplay Play Games 3

When my credit balance dropped to $10, a pop-up appeared in the top right corner, asking if I wanted to reload my credits using the Cash I had earned. It checked if I wanted to place another bet with the Cash I got from my first credit purchase.

Horseplay Play Games 4

I decided to buy another $10 in credits to see where the adventure would take me. But this time, I didn’t want to go with the horse race bets they recommended—I tried to choose for myself. So, I selected “See wager details.” A screen showed that my $10 would be spread across five different races, along with a detailed breakdown of the bets.

After clicking “Reshuffle,” the system picked a new set of bets. I decided to roll with them. Once I confirmed the wager (purchase), my account had an extra $10 in credits. After burning through those, I ended up with $7.04 in Cash, the total result of my 60 spins.

According to the wagering details in the account history, my bets earned $3.60 from that last $10 top-up.

Horseplay Promo Code & Sign-Up Bonus

Horseplay doesn’t offer a no-deposit bonus for new users, which makes sense since it’s not a sweepstakes casino.

But they do provide two welcome bonuses for first-time depositors, depending on how much you put in:

  • Level 1: deposit and purchase credits of $10 or $20, and they’ll instantly match your first credit purchase 100% in Freeplay Credits. You can get a bonus between $10 and $20.
  • Level 2: deposit and purchase credits from $40 to $250; they’ll match your first credit purchase of 200% in Freeplay Credits. This gives you a bonus between $80 and $500.

You don’t need a Horseplay promo code to secure these bonuses. Just sign up through my links, and you’re good to go.

Note that the welcome bonus is available in AL, DE, FL, KS, ND, NH, NM, OK, RI, SD, VT, and WI.

Important Information About the Horseplay Welcome Offer

Here are some key terms and conditions you should know about the Horseplay welcome bonus:

  • Wagering requirements: Both welcome bonuses come with a 10x wagering requirement. You’ll need to play through your Freeplay credits ten times before they convert into Cash.
  • Minimum deposit: To qualify for the sign-up offer at Horseplay, you’ll need to deposit and purchase credits worth at least $10.
  • Expiration date: Once you claim the bonus, you have 100 days to use it. This generous time frame should give you plenty of room to meet the rollover requirement.
  • Time to activate the bonus: There’s no rush to claim your bonus. There’s no set deadline for activating it, but remember that the offer you see today might change.
  • Eligibility: To claim the bonus, you must be 21 or older and live in Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Kansas, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, or Wisconsin.
  • Validity period: Freeplay credits are suitable for 30 days. So, you’ve got 30 days to clear the wagering requirements, or you’ll lose the bonus and any winnings from it.

Horseplay Casino Review

Horseplay is as legit as any legal sportsbook, racebook, or online casino licensed in the U.S. They’ve been around since 2012, making them one of the pioneers in the country’s online gaming market.

I didn’t hear about Horseplay until around 2019 when Chumba and Luckyland practically kick-started the sweepstakes market.

Here’s some more background on Horseplay.

Background

Horseplay was launched in 2012 as BSpot by Game Play Network, a company based in Los Angeles, California. You can easily look them up on sites like Pitchbook and Crunchbase to see details about their investors, CEO, and more. Plus, they’ve got an official website and a LinkedIn page if you want to dig deeper.

Bottom line: this is a completely legit company, and I have zero doubts about their credibility.

What gives me even more confidence is that they’re licensed as an Advance Deposit Wagering platform, which means they’ve gone through all the necessary licensing checks in every state they operate, just like any other racebook.

Reputation

Since Horseplay is a licensed platform, most online discussions are about how players feel about using it rather than questioning its legitimacy.

That said, Horseplay doesn’t seem to get the recognition it might deserve. They have a 2.8 rating on Trustpilot. A lot of the negative feedback comes from players who didn’t fully grasp how the system works (which is understandable). Of course, there are also the usual accusations about games being rigged, but I find that a bit far-fetched considering the scrutiny Horseplay went through with state regulatory bodies.

On social media, they have a decent following, but it’s smaller than I’d expect for a platform that’s been around for a decade. A big part of that is probably due to their recent rebrand from BSpot to Horseplay—people are still catching up to the new name.

  • Over 4.7k followers on Instagram
  • Over 2.4k followers on Twitter
  • Over 18k followers on Facebook

I also did some searching on Reddit and didn’t come across any dedicated posts about Horseplay, which likely has to do with the name change that not everyone’s caught onto yet.

Horseplay also has a native iOS app with a solid 4.4 rating from 6,000+ reviews.

Main Selling Points

A lot of gaming platforms preach innovation, but Horseplay truly walks the talk. Here’s what I think are their best features:

  • Awesome promotions: Beyond the big welcome bonus we covered earlier, Horseplay has a ton of promos, like happy hours, reload bonuses, weekend tournaments, and more. If you’re playing regularly, you’ll rack up a lot of Freeplay credits.
  • Transparent outcomes: The transparency in how game results are shown is something you usually only find with provably fair games on sites like us and Moonspin. It’s one of the few places where you can access 100% of the information on how each game turns out.
  • One-of-a-kind concept: This setup might not be for everyone, but you have to hand it to them—they’ve really broken the mold and come up with something completely different from any other gaming operator.
  • Smooth user experience: The dark green and black design really pops. The site looks clean, and getting around is super simple.
  • Exclusive games: Even though the casino games are basically just for show, they’re still a lot of fun to play. These in-house games are only available on Horseplay, and they come with some cool features like Cashpots.

Areas Where Horseplay Can Improve

Just because they’re unique doesn’t mean there aren’t areas that could use some work. Here’s what I think are their weakest points:

  • Limited selection of games: With only about 80 games on offer, the experience can start to feel a bit stale after a while.
  • Not-so-great payout odds: I don’t want to sound like those ranting players, but the payout odds here do seem worse than what you’d find in sweepstakes casinos (and even those use nerfed RTP versions of games). Plus, you’re locked into placing bets on 5 races when you buy credits, so it doesn’t feel like you have much control.
  • No freebies: If this were just a racebook, I wouldn’t expect no-deposit bonuses. But since Horseplay mixes in sweepstakes casino elements, I have to point it out as a downside.

Horseplay State Availability

Horseplay operates in 17 U.S. states, including AL, CO, DE, FL, KS, MT, ND, NH, NM, NY, OK, OR, RI, SD, VT, WI, and WY.

It’s important to note that some of their promotions are only available in certain states. For example, the Multistate Big Player Bonus is limited to AL, DE, FL, KS, NH, NM, ND, OK, OR, RI, SD, VT, and WI.

Horseplay Game Types

Horseplay has a modest game library with just over 80 titles. The majority are slots, but there are also a few arcade games.

Until recently, Horseplay only offered proprietary games developed by their in-house production team at Game Play Network. However, they’ve recently brought in games from other providers and integrated them into their system. You can find titles from top-tier game vendors like High 5 Games, IGT, Kalamba Games, and Aristocrat Gaming.

I know I keep harping on this, but it’s worth reiterating: Horseplay’s game outcomes aren’t determined by a Random Number Generator like in sweepstakes casinos. What you see on the slots is just an interactive way of showing the results of the horse race wagers you made when purchasing credits.

I bring this up in case you ever find yourself wondering why a slot you’re familiar with isn’t paying out as you’d expect.

It’s also worth noting that Horseplay offers a demo mode for their games, so you can test them out before playing for credits (or real money effectively).

Navigation Through the Game Lobby

Getting around Horseplay is a breeze, which isn’t surprising considering the smaller game selection. Instead of the usual sidebar menu you see at other casinos, everything is laid out front and center, making great use of the space. There’s just one horizontal menu, and the content is split into a few main categories.

I do wish they had a quick game description in the form of thumbnails to give players a snapshot of each game's main features, especially since most of these titles are unique and not available anywhere else.

Slots

Horseplay has about 70 slots, split into categories like Spinners and Reel Classics. Honestly, I think it would’ve been better if they organized them by something more meaningful, like volatility, instead of these random groupings.

From what I’ve seen, the visuals in their proprietary slots are meh, but the sound effects are top-notch. As for extras, they’ve incorporated popular gameplay elements like a version of Megaways (with up to 4,096 ways to win) in slots like Mammoth Chase. You’ll also find standard features like free spins, multipliers, and wilds.

Many of their slots are linked to their Cashpot jackpot network. These are fixed jackpots that trigger when you land special symbols. Since I didn’t hit a jackpot myself, I’m not sure if the Cashpots are won independently of the race outcomes or if they’re part of the overall calculation.

My Gameplay Adventure: Dave's Run

Figuring out the exact payout odds for horse race wagers on Horseplay is tough, because that’s something you’d need to track over a longer period to really get a clear picture. But here’s how my session went:

  • $20 bet, $14.80 back = 74% payout rate
  • $10 bet, $6.80 back = 68% payout rate
  • $10 bet, $5.20 back = 52% payout rate
  • $10 bet, $11.20 back = 112% payout rate
  • $10 bet, $3.60 back = 36% payout rate

Overall, that works out to a 68.4% payout rate. For comparison, the average RTP on slots at some of my favorite sweepstakes casinos hovers around 90%.

Arcade Games

Horseplay features 8 arcade games, mostly centered around bingo and scratch cards. I was pleasantly surprised to find video poker included—one of my all-time favorites—even though the payouts for a Royal Flush are ridiculously low.

Horseplay Casino Banking: Deposit & Withdrawal Methods

Banking at Horseplay is straightforward. The casino offers several ways to deposit (buy Cash), including:

  • Instant bank transfer
  • Credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover)
  • Play+

The default deposit limits range from $10 to $500, but you can reach out to support if you need a higher limit.

Horseplay Banking

You can only cash out using the same method you used to deposit. The minimum withdrawal amount is $1, but remember, you’ll need to have spent at least $100 on the site before you can make a withdrawal.

Withdrawals take up to 5 days to process—not bad, but not the fastest either.

Ongoing Promotions & Rewards Program at Horseplay Casino

Horseplay offers solid incentives for regular players, with 5-7 promos running on a weekly rotation. They’ve got cashback deals, reloads, happy hour offers, and more—all neatly laid out in the dedicated “Promotions” tab.

Unfortunately, they don’t currently have a VIP or loyalty program, which is a bit of a letdown.

Ongoing Promos

Here are some of the promotions Horseplay was offering when I put together this review:

  • Friday Heat Wave Frenzy: Get 15% back on purchased credits, up to $50. The more you deposit, the bigger the cashback you qualify for.
  • Happy Hours: Buy and play at least $20 worth of credits, and you can earn up to $20 cashback on net losses during happy hours.
  • Summer Reload Bonus: Deposit and play $20 worth of credits over the weekend, and you can earn up to 10% back on losses (up to $100).
  • Tournaments: Horseplay runs daily, weekly, and monthly slot tournaments where you earn points for each Cash reveal during the promo period. The players with the most points win prizes. The monthly (biggest) tournament has a prize pool of $2,500 in Freeplay credits.
  • AMOE Sweepstakes Draw: Send a letter to Horseplay headquarters with the relevant information to receive one additional entry into each of the sweepstakes draws.

Rewards Program

Horseplay doesn’t currently offer a loyalty program, which is a bit of a letdown. Hopefully, they’ll consider adding one in the future.

Horseplay User Experience

I personally dig the UX at Horseplay, even though there are a few quirks that could use some tweaking. Here’s a quick rundown of the good and the not-so-good:

Positives

Negatives

Looks sharp

Arbitrary game categorization

Games run smoothly

Occasional 2-second delay when opening a new game category

Well-optimized for mobile

Horseplay Customer Support

I’ve got nothing but praise for Horseplay’s support team. They’re easy to reach, quick to respond, and handled any issues I had without a hitch. Here’s how you can get in touch:

They also have an extensive FAQ section that covers a lot of ground. However, I think it would be great if they added some tutorial videos to help explain how the system works—it could really use that extra clarity.

Security and Responsible Gambling

Horseplay takes security seriously, so you don’t have to worry about data leaks or your personal information being compromised.

They use 256-bit SSL encryption as their main protection tool and offer extra features like 2FA (you’ll receive an SMS code each time you log in) and biometric verification.

When it comes to responsible gambling, Horseplay has a dedicated section to help players maintain healthy habits. Some of the tools they offer include:

  • Deposit limit
  • Timeout
  • Self-exclusion

Alternatives to Horseplay

Horseplay is definitely a unique experience, and it’s hard to say if this system will click with you. If it doesn’t, here are a few sweepstakes casinos you might want to check out instead:

  • Pulsz: This site offers a no-deposit bonus for new players and over 700 free slots from top providers like Pragmatic Play and NetEnt.
  • Fortune Coins: Features games from more than 25 providers and includes progressive jackpot games.
  • WOW Vegas: This sweepstakes casino regularly runs over 10 promotions, giving you plenty of chances to win freebies.
  • High 5 Casino: One of the few sweepstakes casinos that offers live dealer games, plus they have over 1,100 other games to choose from.
