Betting & DFS Sites Like FanDuel – FanDuel Alternatives

FanDuel started out as a daily fantasy sports provider in 2009 and has since grown into a household name in the sports betting and gaming industry. Midway through the 2010s, they rose to prominence and established a duopoly on DFS with their archrival DraftKings.

FanDuel began its foray into sports betting and online casino gaming on September 1, 2018, in New Jersey. Shortly afterward, Flutter, a UK gambling juggernaut, purchased the brand. Recently, FanDuel launched the FanDuel Racing horse betting app, further diversifying its offerings.

A competitive welcome bonus, superior market depth (particularly for prop bets), and exceptional user experience on both the desktop site and mobile apps are some of FanDuel's biggest selling points. FanDuel also pioneered same game parlays, a feature now incorporated into nearly every sportsbook.

FanDuel has a massive presence in the US, but its availability varies by state. Depending on the local laws and regulations, FanDuel may offer only DFS in some states, while in others, its lineup includes both DFS and sports betting or just sports betting.

Whether it's accessibility or personal preference, FanDuel isn't everyone’s cup of tea. There are several FanDuel alternatives you can check out if that's the case.

This guide provides alternatives to FanDuel for both their sports betting and DFS products.

Best FanDuel Alternatives for Betting

FanDuel Sportsbook is possibly the best all-around sports betting site in the country, but its competitors are just as fierce. There are many brands that are comparable to FanDuel and, in some areas, even outperform them.

To that end, we've rounded up five other online books that rival FanDuel. We'll compare their key features and how they stack up against FanDuel.

Caesars Sportsbook became one of the best sportsbooks available after acquiring William Hill and integrating its technology into the Caesars platform.

Caesars Sportsbook offers one of the best sign-up for new customers in the industry—a Bonus Bet up to $1,000 as a refund if your first wager loses. To claim the sign up offer, use promo code OA1000. Once you receive your Bonus Bet, you have 14 days to use them.

The perks of the Caesars Sportsbook don't end after you take advantage of the intro bonus, either. They offer some of the most competitive odds in the industry and have attractive ongoing promotions and odds boosts to help you win more.

Caesars also offers all major sports and bet types—including same game parlays that allow you to combine sides, totals, and prop bets from the same game in one parlay.

The Caesars Sportsbook app is also one of the best available in the nation. It's easy to navigate, is very responsive, and rarely crashes or has other issues.

Overall, Caesars Sportsbook is a phenomenal option when it comes to betting. They have the best sign-up bonus, great odds, regular odds boosts, and an awesome user experience.

Currently, BetMGM is neck-and-neck with FanDuel for our top-rated sportsbook ranking. It’s a complete betting site that rarely drops the ball in any area.

The site is the result of a collaboration between MGM Resorts and UK operator Entain. Initially launched in New Jersey in 2018, BetMGM has since expanded to at least 19 other states. BetMGM has a slight edge over FanDuel when it comes to overall availability (As of this writing, BetMGM operates in 20 states, whereas FanDuel is available in 18).

In terms of sign-up bonus, FanDuel and BetMGM run comparable promos. Both sites feature a bet & get welcome offer for newcomers.

Previously, BetMGM offered a first bet refund (Up to $1,500 Back in Bonus Bets) welcome bonus, akin to risk-free bets seen at some other sportsbooks. BetMGM awards bonus bets in three installments, whereas FanDuel pays the bonus in one lump sum (which can later be spread out as desired).

Both FanDuel and BetMGM cover around 20 sports. Their market depth is also comparable, with both sportsbooks offering an incredible array of prop bets for major sports. You can find various props for a particular NFL game at BetMGM, including QB props, receiver props, rushing props, and H2H props for most passing yards.

BetMGM extends slightly higher promotional values to its regular customers and features one of the best loyalty programs among sportsbooks. A strong argument in FanDuel's favor is a better user experience.

Both FanDuel and BetMGM have demonstrated a knack for innovation. BetMGM introduced Edit My Bet and Parlay Builder, while FanDuel pioneered Same Game Parlays (which BetMGM offers but calls it Parlay Builder).

3) BetRivers (SugarHouse in some states)

BetRivers/SugarHouse offers a second chance bet up to $500 in all states except NY where its $100. You have 30 days to use the bonus bet if you receive it and there is only a 1x rollover requirement.

BetRivers is the online gaming skin of Rush Street Interactive which also offers the SugarHouse Sportsbook in certain states.

When it comes to pricing, BetRivers is superior to FanDuel and many other sportsbooks. It consistently offers the best odds in the industry, particularly for NBA markets.

Meanwhile, BetRivers' sign-up bonus is a far cry from FanDuel's, although it's a pretty decent offer overall. New bettors can receive a second-chance free bet up to $500.

BetRivers backs it up with a range of incentives for existing players, including SGP Bet & Get promos and various single-bet and parlay insurances. Free-to-play contests are a big draw, while the odds boosts are on par with the industry standard.

BetRivers offers odds on 13 sports, which puts it in the middle of the pack. When it comes to betting type variety, it's pretty versatile. The book can get creative with player props and offer options rarely seen on other sites. For instance, we’ve come across an NBA player prop bet “player to score the first FG in the game” with starting odds of +500.

BetRivers could use some improvement in terms of usability. There has been much criticism of the news feed occupying a large chunk of the right side of the screen on desktop which can’t be minimized or turned off.

You can learn more about the differences between the two in our FanDuel vs BetRivers Guide.

4) DraftKings

DraftKings will match 20% of your first deposit of up to $5,000 ($1,000 max match in site credit). You must bet the bonus 25x before you are able to withdraw it and you have 90 days to do so.

DraftKings boasts the second-largest market share in the nation, trailing only its biggest rival, FanDuel. FanDuel vs. DraftKings is one of the most widely debated comparisons in the sports betting community, and the reality is there are arguments for both.

Up until recently, DraftKings offered one of the biggest welcome bonuses in the industry, but they scaled down on promotional efforts and are now featuring a 20% up to $1,000. It would take a deposit of $5,000 to max out the offer, which is quite a big financial commitment.

Conversely, FanDuel doesn't require players to break the bank to maximize its bonus, although its $1k cap is no pocket change either.

As far as ongoing promos, the two brands are level. DraftKings offers regular SGP insurance, referral bonuses, and all kinds of specials. They also have free-to-play contests with five-digit prizes.

DraftKings and FanDuel have a similar betting offering, with both sportsbooks covering around 20 sports. The separation is negligible in terms of market depth, as there are a plethora of player props on both sites. DraftKings has a more versatile H2H player props selection, but FanDuel has higher win limits, which could be a deciding factor for high rollers.

In terms of innovation, DraftKings has outperformed FanDuel. DraftKings introduced features like a betting carousel and micro-betting, offering bettors live play-by-play options.

Other Sports Betting Sites Like FanDuel

Here are a few more sportsbooks you may want to check out if none of the above sites perks your interest:

  • Betway: The UK-based Betway debuted in the U.S. in 2021. If you're signing up from AZ, NJ, and PA, you can claim a Bet $25 Get $150 If Your Bet Wins offer. New users from CO, IN, IA, LA, OH, and VA are not eligible for any offer yet. The site is intuitive, but it sometimes takes a while to load. Although it offers features like cash out and SGP, the ongoing promotions are few and far between. With odds on about 20 sports, the betting selection is solid.
  • SI Sportsbook: This new player on the betting scene, launched in 2021 via a partnership with 888. It offers a unique welcome bonus—Bet $20, Win $200—and a nice free contest game with a $10k prize pool. Bettors might find value in the sportsbook’s homemade parlays for major sports. Pricing and navigation are its weak points.
  • Unibet: Unibet is another well-established sportsbook that originated in Europe. It offers an industry-standard welcome bonus, a risk-free bet of up to $500. Unibet is powered by Kambi, so bettors can enjoy the Bet Builder feature and a wide variety of betting options

Best FanDuel Alternatives for DFS

There are several noteworthy substitutes to FanDuel for daily fantasy sports (DFS) players looking for a change of scenery. Other DFS sites offer similar features and competitive games but with their own unique twists.

Below, we’ll highlight the top advantages of each of these FanDuel DFS alternatives to help you decide which is best for you.

The sign-up bonus on Underdog Fantasy is a 100% first deposit match up to $100. Use promo code ODDS100 here.

Underdog Fantasy is our top-rated DFS operator. It offers a wide range of games and contests, both against the house and other users. From single-week drafts to head-to-head contests and higher/lower games, the game variety is fantastic.

Their biggest claim to fame probably lies in Best Ball tournaments, which can award prizes up to $1 million.

Underdog features an attractive welcome bonus—a 100% deposit match up to $100—in part because of its low wagering requirements (only have to bet the bonus funds once before you can withdraw any winnings).

On top of the intro promo, Underdog runs various promos for existing customers, namely odds boosts and specials.

In addition, Underdog Fantasy has a more affordable fee structure than its competitors and charges a smaller cut for games. This allows you to keep more of your winnings and participate in more contests without breaking the bank.

Underdog gives players the option of activating insurance on their games against the house. The downside is that they'll give up some of their profit, but on the upside if they hit all but one pick, they'll win a payout.

Within the wide range of games, SuperFlex contests are a standout. These are traditional salary cap games against other players, which allow for an extra player choice in the Flex position, providing more versatility in building a winning lineup.

Additionally, OwnersBox offers Lightning Lineups, which are games against the house where players compete against the platform's roster. In addition, they organize weekly DFS games.

OwnersBox also provides players with the opportunity to earn rewards through its loyalty program. Cashback (1% of entry fees) comes in the form of OwnersBucks, a virtual currency that can be used to fund other contests.

ParlayPlay is a daily fantasy sports platform that specializes in games against the house.

The platform allows users to predict whether a player's stats will exceed or fall below their projected total and whether the stat line in question will be within predetermined ranges.

Among the highlights of ParlayPlay is its $5 no-deposit bonus, a rarity among daily fantasy sports sites. With this incentive, new players can try out the platform risk-free.

ParlayPlay also stands out in its coverage of boxing, which is not available on many daily fantasy sports sites. This gives players a wider range of options for their daily fantasy sports interests.

ParlayPlay is one of the few DFS providers with first and second-half lines. Period bets are a great way to get in on the action when you're predicting a comeback.

Other DFS Sites Like FanDuel

In case any of the previous DFS platforms aren't to your liking, there are several other options worth exploring:

  • Thrive Fantasy: Thrive Fantasy offers a wide selection of contests against other players and the house, with entry fees ranging from free to $10k+. It also features larger GTDs and head-to-head contests and covers a diverse range of sports, including major leagues, UFC, PGA, cricket, and esports. One of Thrive Fantasy's standout features is its high payouts for prop bets against the house, providing a return of 3.6x for two picks compared to the typical 3x offered by other sites.
  • Vivid Picks: This site allows unique social play, enabling players to see each other's picks and interact with each other. The platform features over/under and head-to-head contest types with a generous 17x payout for hitting all five picks. Vivid Picks offers a variety of sports across 11 markets, including niche options such as NASCAR, F1, and esports.

How to Choose a FanDuel Alternative

As great as FanDuel is, it may not be the best fit for everyone. After all, every bettor’s mileage varies. We have compiled a list of key considerations to keep in mind when choosing an alternative:

  • State availability: Not all sportsbooks and DFS platforms are available in every state, so make sure to check if the platform you're interested in is accessible where you live. You can see states with legal sports betting here and states where DFS is legal here.
  • Game types: Different platforms offer different types of games, so it's important to determine which formats you prefer. Your choice of site will depend on whether you prefer traditional salary cap contests, player props against the house, or head-to-head contests for DFS and what sports and bet types are available for sports betting.
  • Odds: Compare the odds of your candidate and other sites. In the case of DFS, check how big of a cut the platform takes or what the payouts are in games against the house. It’s a matter of simple math.
  • Sign-up bonuses: Choosing a site with a large intro promo is a no-brainer. Make sure the bonus has reasonable terms; otherwise, it won't be worth much.
  • Deposit and withdrawal options: Ensure that the platform has the deposit and withdrawal options you're comfortable with. Look at the cashout speed and limits as well.
  • User experience: Consider the platform's interface, navigation, and overall user experience.
  • Customer reviews: Read feedback from other users to get a better understanding of the platform's strengths and weaknesses.
