Did we write off Dallas too early? Many media outlets proclaimed the season over after Dak Prescott went down with a thumb injury in Week 1.
But the Cooper Rush-led Cowboys knocked off Cincinnati in an ugly, defensive Week 2 battle giving the Dallas faithful some hope while Dak is sidelined. He will miss at least 3 to 4 more weeks as the Cowboys look to stay towards the top of the NFC East.
The New York Giants are looking for their first 3-0 start since 2009 after defeating the Titans and Panthers heading into Monday night’s divisional clash. This is their first 2-0 start since 2016. It hasn’t been pretty on either side of the ball, but the defense played well and the Giants controlled the clock in its methodical, 19-16, win over Carolina last week.
Dallas has won 9 of the 10 past matchups in this series, but the Giants open as a slight 1-point favorite. New York has confidence and the home field advantage as they face a Dak-less Cowboys offense and look to make another statement in Week 3.
Betting Trends
- The Cowboys are is 8-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last nine road games.
- The Cowboys have won 9 of 10 straight up against the Giants.
- The Giants are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as the favorite.
- The Over has hit in 5 of Dallas' last 7 games against the Giants.
- The Under has hit in each of the Giants' last 6 home games.
PREDICTION: GIANTS 20 COWBOYS 17
NYG (-115) vs DAL (+100) Moneyline Pick: STAY AWAY
This game is as big of a toss-up as they come. The Giants aren’t a great team but have played well enough to start 2-0, while the Cowboys are deep and talented on both sides of the ball but playing without their star QB.
I expect an ugly, close game Monday night with NYG coming away with the win. New York has confidence, home field, and face a Dak-less Cowboys offense as they look to make another statement in Week 3.
I would avoid taking the ML if you’re going with the Giants since the spread value is slightly better.
NYG (–1) vs DAL (+1) Spread Pick: GIANTS –1
New York opened as 2.5-point favorites, but the line has moved to all the way down to a pick’em on some books.
While I’m taking the Giants, this game can go either way and my confidence is not too high either way. It is hard to count Dallas out, especially after its shocking upset win over Super Bowl runner-up Cincinnati.
Expect a close game as stated above, so don’t feel bad about having low confidence in picking a winner. We actually prefer a total play as our best MNF bet.
NYG vs DAL Total (Over/Under 39) Pick: UNDER 39
With both offenses struggling, look for a low-scoring game at MetLife. The Under has hit in 30 out of 47 games so far this season, including in all four games the Giants and Cowboys have played.
We like Under 39 as our best bet of the night.
MNF Prop of the Week: Saquon Barkley – Anytime TD Scorer (–105 at FanDuel)
Barkley has seen over 20 touches in each of the Giants wins to open the season. A healthy Barkley is arguably the most dynamic player in the league, and I expect him to see 20+ carries again Monday night against Dallas. Look for him to get into the endzone at least once.
