NFL Week 5 & NCAAF Week 6 Best Bets
- Louisville -6.5 vs. SMU – 12 pm ET
- Air Force +10 vs. Navy – 12 pm ET (Pick of the Week)
- Vanderbilt +23.5 vs. Alabama – 4:15 pm ET
- Boise St -26 vs. Utah St – 7:00 pm ET
- Washington -1 vs. Michigan – 7:30 pm ET
- New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins UNDER 36.5 – 1 pm ET
- Pittsburgh Steelers -2.5 vs. Dallas Cowboys – 8:20 pm ET (Pick of the Week)
Louisville -6.5 vs. SMU – 12 pm ET on ESPN
SMU has only played one game on the road, way back on August 24th against Nevada in a Week 0 game and they were lucky to get out of there with a 29-24 win.
After 4 straight home games they now head on the road to face a Louisville team coming off their first loss of the season—31-24 to Notre Dame.
SMU has had too many defensive lapses this year to keep up with Louisville. SMU gave up 42 points at home to TCU just a few weeks ago. Now they will go up against a Louisville offense averaging over 47 points per game at home.
Look for Louisville to score enough to get the win and cover Saturday.

NCAAF PICK OF THE WEEK: Air Force +10 vs. Navy – 12 pm ET on CBS
It doesn’t matter how the season is going for these two teams, when they meet on the field it always a hard-fought battle, and Navy laying double digits on the road is simply too many points.
These teams know each other well and Air Force is well prepared to face the Navy option offense. So while the Air Force offense has been struggling, don’t look for them to need to score too many points to keep this one within the number.
Navy hasn’t won a game in this rivalry by more than 10 points since 2015.
Look for another close one Saturday, take Air Force +10.

Vanderbilt +23.5 vs. Alabama – 4:15 pm ET on SECN
This is a classic letdown spot for Alabama coming off a season-defining win against Georgia last week.
Alabama has struggled at times this year against lesser opponents and Vanderbilt has shown quite a bit of improvement to start the 2024 season.
They lost on the road in overtime to a good Missouri team a few weeks ago and now are coming off a bye week to prepare for this one.
Look for Vanderbilt to score enough against an Alabama defense that has shown some cracks to keep this within the big number.

Boise St -26 vs. Utah St – 7:00 pm ET on FS2
There is no nice way to say it other than Utah State is a really bad football team.
They lost to Temple, one of the worst teams in all of college football, by 16 points. They play absolutely no defense, allowing over 43 points per game in their last 3.
And now they will go up against a Boise State offense that can put up points.
Boise is averaging 47.75 points per game. They will score at will against Utah State and win by at least 4 touchdowns at home Saturday night.

Washington -1 vs. Michigan – 7:30 pm ET on NBC
The Washington defense has been strong to start the year, ranking 10th, giving up just 249.8 yards per game.
And now they will play a Michigan team that relies primarily on the run to accomplish anything.
Michigan is traveling for the first time all year, having opened up with 5 straight home games and not looking particularly impressive in any of them.
The Washington offense averages 470 yards per game compared to just 310 for the Michigan offense.
This is not a good situation for Michigan with long travel for their first road game against a team that can put up a lot of points, something Michigan is not capable of doing.
Looking for Washington to win and cover the small number Saturday night.

New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins UNDER 36.5 – 1 pm ET on FOX
I'm not sure where the points will be coming from in this game. Both teams are a mess, especially on offense.
Since the Dolphins lost Tua Tagovailoa to injury, they have scored just 1 touchdown and a grand total of 15 points in 9 quarters.
Despite just throwing for 96 yards last week, the Dolphins really have no choice but to send Tyler Huntley back out there to face a tough Patriots defense.
The Patriots offense has not been much better, averaging just 12.75 points per game in their first 4 games.
Look for both teams to continue to struggle and points to be at a premium. Play this game UNDER 36.5.

NFL PICK OF THE WEEK: Pittsburgh Steelers -2.5 vs. Dallas Cowboys – 8:20 pm ET on NBC
Dallas is banged up heading into this game. They will be without Demarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons, two key contributors on their defense.
The Steelers have started the season strong, jumping out to a 3-1 record behind some strong defense. They are allowing just 13.25 points per game and rank 4th in the league allowing just 261.3 yards per game.
The Dallas defense meanwhile has struggled mightily and with the injury issues things will only get worse. They are allowing 26 points per game and giving up 355 yards per game.
The Steelers top-10 rushing offense should have a lot of success controlling the game and keeping the Dallas offense off the field.
Look for the Steelers to win and cover the small number at home Sunday night.
