As of this writing on 12/15/21, 888 Sportsbook is no longer available. You can, however, sign up for Sports Illustrated Sportsbook—which was made in partnership with 888Sport—if you bet in Colorado. See our full SI Sportsbook Review by clicking the button above.

888sport (pronounced “triple eight sport”) is a subsidiary of 888 Holdings, a company founded in 1997 that operates a variety of gambling brands and websites throughout the world.

Though 888 primarily started offering gambling in the United Kingdom, the company has since expanded to the United States.

In 2013, the Nevada Gaming Commission granted a license to 888sport, allowing them to provide online gambling in the state. Just 5 years later in September 2018, the 888sport Sportsbook launched in New Jersey, making it the seventh online sportsbook in the state.

Since then, the 888 Sportsbook has become a popular option for sports bettors in NJ.

The 888 Sportsbook offers a competitive intro bonus and action on all major sports and leagues around the world. If you are looking for a sportsbook with a wide variety of markets, 888 is a decent option to consider.

This 888 Sportsbook review will go over pros and cons, promotions, user experience, the competitiveness of odds, and much more to help you decide if 888 is the right sportsbook for you.

888 Sportsbook Quick Review

The 888 Sportsbook ranks in the middle of the pack when it comes to our rankings for the online sportsbooks in New Jersey.

It offers a competitive risk-free $500 bet for new customers, a wide variety of markets to bet on, and a smooth deposit and withdrawal process.

On the downside, we've found the 888 Sportsbook's odds to be less competitive than most other sportsbooks and users consistently have problems with logging into the mobile app. They also don't offer complete same game parlays that have become popular over the past few years.

If you regularly bet on sports in NJ, it's worth considering adding the 888 Sportsbook to your lineup of sportsbooks, but we recommend using others as well so you can shop around for the best lines on each game.

888 Sportsbook Intro Promo

New users of the 888 Sportsbook app are automatically eligible for a risk-free bet of up to $500. There is no need to opt-in to the promo; once you create your account and make your first cash deposit, you are automatically eligible.

Here's how the risk-free bet works:

  • Make your first deposit of at least $10 in the 888 Sportsbook app or website
  • Place your first bet (only single bets count; not parlays)
  • If your bet wins or pushes, you do not receive any bonus cash
  • If your bet loses, you will receive free bets equal to the amount of your first bet up to $500 within 72 hours of your first bet settling
  • Your free bets expire after 7 days
  • There is just a 1x rollover requirement, meaning that winning free bets will become real cash if you win the bet

How it stacks up

888sport's $500 risk-free bet is competitive with other online sportsbooks. While there are some that offer $1,000 risk-free bets or more, many others just offer between $50 and $250.

The 1x rollover is also much better than the sportsbooks that require you to bet bonus funds 2x, 5x, 10x, or even more before withdrawing them.

You need to make sure that you use your free bets within 7 days of them hitting your account or else you will lose them. This, in my opinion, is the biggest negative of the 888sport promo bonus. Most other sportsbooks give you at least a month to bet the site credit/free bets before they expire, with some giving you up to a year.

Aside from the risk-free bet, new users can also receive a $10 free bet for making their first live bet of $10 or more on a game with odds of -200 or longer (-110, +200, etc.).

888 Sportsbook Promotions

Aside from the intro bonuses for new customers, the 888 Sportsbook offers some other promotions that you can take advantage of to try earning extra money.

Before diving into those, I wanted to note that in my experience using the 888 Sportsbook and during my research, I have not seen any odds boosts or loyalty rewards programs like many other online sportsbooks offer.

Here are some examples of 888 Sportsbook promotions I've seen in the past besides the bonuses for new users:

  • Pick 8: Each week, pick the answers to 8 select events and split the $8,000 reward with all winners if you get all 8 correct. 6 correct answers wins a $5 free bet and 7 correct answers wins a $10 free bet.
  • Tuesday Win Win: Place a $5+ bet with odds of +300 on Tuesdays to win a $5 free bet if your bet wins.
  • Wednesday Win Win: Place a $10+ bet with odds of +400 on Tuesdays to win a $10 free bet if your bet wins.
  • Thursday Win Win: Place a $15+ bet with odds of +500 on Tuesdays to win a $15 free bet if your bet wins.

Types of Bets the 888 Sportsbook Accepts

Like most sportsbooks, the 888 Sportsbook offers many types of sports bets including:

In terms of prop bets, the 888 Sportsbook offers a decent selection of both game and player props. I have found that player props often aren't posted until the same day as the game or within hours of the start time, so if you don't see the bet you are interested in, check back later.

Live betting

The 888 Sportsbook offers live betting on most sports including football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, and more.

To see games currently in action, hit the “Live Betting” button in the top menu of the website or the “Live Now” button towards the bottom of the app.

You can also cash out of most single bets on games that are still in progress and parlays that are only partially complete. If you hit the first 3 legs of a 4-leg parlay, for example, you may be able to cash out for a reduced payout.

Same game parlays

Same game parlays” have gained a lot of popularity over the past few years after sportsbooks like FanDuel started offering them. With these, you can parlay multiple wagers from a single, typically including sides, totals, player props, and game props.

Unfortunately, the 888 Sportsbook does NOT offer true same game parlays.

You can typically combine spreads and totals from the same game (such as the Giants +6.5 and Over 42.5), but you can't currently combine player props, game props, spreads, and/or totals.

Check here to see sportsbooks that offer same game parlays.

888 Sportsbook Website Experience

You can bet with the 888 Sportsbook through its mobile app or the website.

The app or website will verify your location to ensure you are located in New Jersey. You may be required to download an application to your computer to help verify your location or grant the website/mobile app access to your location.

You don't have to be a resident of NJ to place your bets; you just have to be physically located there when betting. Note that if you are close to the border, it may not be able to verify that you are actually in NJ.

User Experience

The 888 Sportsbook has a similar design to most other online sportsbooks. It's easy to jump around to different sports and view the lines for specific games.

In my opinion, both the mobile app and website use a dark theme that is similar to the DraftKings Sportsbook. This can take a bit to get used to at first as it can be hard to distinguish different games and available bets, but once you get used to it, it's not too bad. Both the app and website would benefit from some added colors and/or team logos other than the orange, black, gray, and white throughout.

Here are some specific notes for both the mobile app and website:

Mobile app

The 888 Sportsbook uses has 5 main menus that can help you navigate to the section you are interested in.

The hamburger menu in the very top left of the app links to the A-Z sports list, live games, promos, the blog, casino, and sportsbook.

Just below that is another hamburger menu that opens up the A-Z sports list.

There are also two other menus towards the center of the screen that let you quickly jump to popular sports and leagues.
Finally, the menu towards the bottom of the app links to the homepage, live games, upcoming games, and promotions.

Once you click into a sport, you'll see a list of all available games sorted by which starts the soonest. You can also see live games too. One of the downsides of the 888 Sportsbook mobile app is that you can't see the spread, total, and moneyline lines all from this page. Instead, you have to click a dropdown to choose which is displayed or click into a specific game.

Once you click into a specific game, there is a horizontal menu that lets you switch between all bets, popular bets, game parlays, player props, and more. Some games have a slider that lets you move the line to see what the odds are on alternate lines. Though this may seem like a small feature, it makes finding alternate spreads and comparing lines much easier than having to scroll through a long list.

Another cool thing about the app is that you can see live updates for games in progress. For example, if you are in the Nets vs. Bulls game in the app, there will be a basketball court on the screen that shows the score, how much time is left, who has possession, and boxes that pop up when something happens such as if points are scored or there is a rebound, including who scored/got the rebound.

When using the app, I've found some of the text buttons (such as going back to all games from a single game screen) to be unresponsive. I find myself hitting them a few times to get them to do what I want. Other than that, the app loads pretty quickly and there aren't any major issues with using it.

Once you make a selection, the bet slip will pop up towards the bottom of your screen. When you are ready to place your bets, simply click that, enter the amount you want to wager, and click “Place bet”.

Check out some of the screenshots below to get a better idea of what the 888 Sportsbook mobile app is like (click to expand):

Website

Like most other sportsbooks, the 888 Sportsbook website looks very similar to the mobile app. The biggest difference is that some of the menus are moved around since there is extra space.

Unlike the mobile app, you can see the 3 main bet types for each game on the desktop site (spread, total, and moneyline for most sports).

Once you make a selection, the bet slip will pop up on the bottom right side of your screen. You can minimize it if you want or leave it open so you can see the current odds on a parlay or just to keep track of how many wagers you have selected.

Other than those two main differences, much of what I said about the mobile app holds true for the website. It's fairly easy to navigate, make selections, and place wagers.

Here are some screenshots of the 888 Sportsbook website (click to expand):

Stability

The biggest problem with the 888 Sportsbook, by far, is problems with logging in.

I (along with countless users who have left reviews online) have found that it's often very difficult—and sometimes impossible—to log into the app.

When you enter in your login info, it often glitches out, crashes, or returns an error message. Sometimes it can take upwards of 10+ attempts before I am able to login successfully.

It's extremely frustrating when this happens, especially when I'm trying to live bet on a game since the odds change so fast.

Other than that, I've found the app to occasionally crash once I am logged in but that's really the only other issue I've run into.

888 Sportsbook Customer Reviews

As of the time of this writing, the 888 Sportsbook app has an average rating of 4.0 from 176 reviews in the Apple App Store.

Most of the positive ratings didn't have an accompanying review (like most other apps), but the few there are noted the great promotions and smooth deposit process.

Here is what I've most commonly seen in negative reviews:

  • Trouble logging in (by far the most common complaint)
  • App freezing and crashing
  • Difficulty withdrawing money

888 Sportsbook Educational & Responsible Gaming Resources

Like any form of gambling, there is always a risk of losing your money when sports betting—especially if you don't fully understand how it works. In addition, gambling addiction is a serious problem that is easier to fall into than most people realize.

For that reason, when rating sportsbooks, I considered what kind of educational resources they provide and what responsible gaming resources and limits they have in place.

Educational resources

You can find links to team statistics in the 888 Sportsbook for almost every major sports league—both in the U.S. and internationally. You can see how teams have performed over their last 6 games, standings, home and away statistics, head-to-head matchup results, and more.

These stats are useful for making more educated decisions when betting. For example, if the Giants are playing the Eagles in Philadelphia, you can look at the Giants' road performance for the season and past results against the Eagles to help decide which side to bet.

To find these statistics, look for the “View all stats” button in the app or website. Once you click it, a new window will open up if you on the website or your browser will open up if you are using the mobile app. This is a bit annoying on the mobile app as you'll have to switch back and forth between it and your browser, but it's better than nothing.

Aside from the team statistics, 888sport also offers various informational guides on how sports betting works including the types of bets, how to place bets, and more. These are very helpful, especially if you are just starting out with sports betting.

Responsible gaming resources & limits

It's apparent that 888sport also cares a lot about making sure its customers are gambling responsibly. There is an extensive Patron Protection Guide that is linked to from the top of every page on the website and in the footer of the mobile app.

This guide goes over how to gamble responsibly, warning signs of gambling problems, risks of gambling, how to find help, and much more.

It also goes over the limits 888sport offers to customers so they can make sure they are gambling responsibly, including:

  • Playing time limit. Limits the total amount of time you can spend on the website or app in a single day.
  • Deposit limit. Limits how much you can deposit to your account on a rolling daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Rolling means that the limit is for the past amount of time (such as past 24 hours, past 7 days, or past month). For example, the weekly limit doesn't go from Monday to Sunday. Instead, it is for the past 7 days.
  • Loss limit. Stops you from wagering more after you have lost a certain amount in a calendar day, calendar week, or calendar month. Note that this limit isn't on a rolling basis like the deposit limit is.
  • Cooling off. Voluntarily suspend your account for 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, or 5 months.
  • Self-exclusion. Block yourself from accessing gambling services in NJ for 1 year, 5 years, or permanently.
If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, you can also call 1-800-GAMBLER to get help.

888 Sportsbook Alternatives

As one of our lower-rated sportsbooks, there are many great alternatives to 888sport worthy of your consideration. Here are some options you may want to check out depending on what you value:

  • If you want a better overall sportsbook: Caesars
  • If you want a deposit match intro promo: DraftKings
  • If you want to be able to bet same game parlays: FanDuel (or other options in this list)
