Parx Casino & Racing opened in 1974 under the original name Philadelphia Park Racetrack and Casino. Parx is now the largest casino in Pennsylvania with slots, live table games, sports betting, and more.

In June 2019, Parx launched its online sportsbook in Pennsylvania and remains one of the most popular PA sportsbooks.

Parx offers a competitive intro bonus for new customers and a wide variety of sports and bet types. On the downside, Parx often has worse odds than competitors and a limited selection of odds boosts and promotions outside of the intro promo.

This Parx Sportsbook review will go over key pros and cons, the intro promo, how the odds stack up, and everything else you need to know to help you decide if Parx is the right sportsbook for you.

Parx Sportsbook Quick Review

The Parx Sportsbook ranks at the back of the pack when it comes to our ratings for online sportsbooks in Pennsylvania.

It offers a competitive risk-free $500 bet, a wide variety of markets to bet on, and many deposit and withdrawal options.

On the downside, we've found Parx Sportsbook's odds to be less competitive than most other books and there are limited odds boosts and promotions outside of the intro promo. In addition, there are some stability issues with the app that can make it frustrating to use.

If you regularly bet on sports in PA, it's worth considering adding the Parx Sportsbook to your lineup of apps, but we recommend using others as well so you can shop around for the best lines.

Parx Sportsbook Intro Promo

Parx offers new customers a risk-free bet of up to $500 as an intro promo. There is no need for an intro promo code or to opt-in to the promo. Once you create your account and make your first cash deposit, you are automatically eligible.

Here's how the risk-free bet works:

  • Make your first deposit of at least $10 in the Parx Sportsbook app or website.
  • Place your first bet (round robins and teasers don't count).
  • If your bet wins or pushes, you do not receive any bonus cash.
  • If your bet loses, you will receive a free bet equal to the amount of your first bet up to $500.
  • Once you receive your free bet, you have 10 days to use it.
  • There is just a 1x rollover requirement, meaning that a winning free bet will become real cash if you win the bet.
    • Note that you only win the profit from the free bet, not the amount staked.
    • For example, if you bet $500 on the Eagles to win at -110 and the bet wins, you can only withdraw the $455.55 you won on the bet, not the original $500 you staked as well.

Parx's $500 risk-free bet is competitive with other betting offers from online sportsbooks. While there are some that offer $1,000 risk-free bets or more, many others just offer between $50 and $250.

The 1x rollover is also much better than the sportsbooks that require you to bet bonus funds 2x, 5x, 10x, or even more before withdrawing them.

You need to make sure that you use your free bet within 10 days of it entering your account or else you will lose it. Since this is just a single free bet (as opposed to site credit that can be used on multiple bets) this isn't really a big problem.

Parx Sportsbook Promotions & Odds Boosts

Aside from the intro bonus for new customers, Parx falls short when it comes to promotions and odds boosts. We rated Parx as 2 out of 5 (“below average”) when it comes to them.

During my time using the app and in my research, I have not seen any sportsbook promotions outside of the risk-free bet for new customers.

There are sometimes odds boosts—which can be found in the Parx Specials section of the site/app—but there are far fewer than most other sportsbooks offer on most days. I typically see around 2 to 4 odds boosts on any given day.

It also seems like Parx doesn't offer any type of rewards program for customers like other books do.

Types of Bets the Parx Sportsbook Offers

Like most sportsbooks, the Parx offers many types of sports bets, including:

In terms of prop bets, Parx offers a decent selection including both game and player props—as is the case with most Kambi-powered sportsbooks.

Live betting

Parx offers live betting on most sports including football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, and more.

To see games currently in action, hit the “Live” button towards the bottom of the app or the “Live Right Now” button in the left sidebar of the website.

Same game parlays

Same game parlays” have gained a lot of popularity over the past few years after sportsbooks like FanDuel started offering them. With these, you can parlay multiple wagers from a single, typically including sides, totals, player props, and game props.

Fortunately, Parx Sportsbook DOES offer same game parlays.

You can combine sides and totals with player props and game props from the same game in a single parlay.

Signing Up for the Parx Sportsbook

You don’t have to be a resident of Pennsylvania to sign up for the Parx Sportsbook, but you must be located in the state to place bets. The only other restriction is that you must be at least 21 years old.

The Parx Sportsbook offers a variety of deposit and withdrawal methods that are highlighted below.

Note that you don't have to be physically located in Pennsylvania to deposit or withdraw money and Parx doesn't charge any fees to do so (though your bank might).

Parx doesn't state any minimum or maximum deposit and withdrawal limits or how long each takes. While all withdrawal requests are supposed to be reviewed within 48 hours, many users online noted that it took 2 weeks or more before their withdrawal requests were approved.

Parx Sportsbook App & Website Experience

You can bet with the Parx Sportsbook through its mobile app or website.

The app or website will verify your location to ensure you are located in Pennsylvania. You may be required to download an application to your computer to help verify your location or grant the website/mobile app access to your location.

You don't have to be a resident of PA to place your bets; you just have to be physically located there when betting. Note that if you are close to the border, it may not be able to verify that you are actually in PA.

User Experience

The Parx Sportsbook app and website look very similar to most other online sportsbooks including menu placement, how games are displayed, and more.

Overall, we rated Parx as a 3 out of 5, or average, for its user experience.

Here are some specific notes for both the mobile app and website to explain why:

Parx Mobile App

The Parx Sportsbook mobile app has a green and blue theme that looks nice and works well with the white text throughout. It's generally pretty easy to see lines and odds.

The A-Z sports menu at the bottom of the app as well as the horizontally scrolling menus make it easy to jump to different sports and sections of the app.

Once you click into a sport, you'll be able to see the spread, total, and moneyline for each game available. This is nice compared to some other sportsbooks that only show you the spread or another category of bet types.

Once you click into a game, you can switch between all bets, game props, player props, and more. While the organization of the available bets—especially player props—isn't my favorite, it's easy enough to find what you are looking for.

Once you make a selection, the betslip will pop up from the bottom of the screen. If you want to make more selections—such as if you are building a parlay—then you can minimize it and keep adding. I really like how Parx allows you to create a teaser directly from your betslip instead of having to make a parlay of alternate lines.

On the downside, I find the app to be a bit glitchy from time to time. Sometimes, buttons don't seem to work or will be completely unclickable. In addition, sometimes I can't completely scroll through a list of bets, making it impossible to select the last option in a list (this also often happens when trying to view team stats). I've also found that I am often locked onto a single screen and have to completely close out and reopen the app.

Overall, the Parx Sportsbook mobile app is decent. It's easy enough to navigate and place bets, there are just a few frustrating kinks that need to be worked out.

Check out some of the screenshots below to get a better idea of what the Parx Sportsbook mobile app is like (click to expand):

Parx Sportsbook Website

The Parx Sportsbook website looks very similar to the mobile app. It uses the same color scheme and the structure of where different kinds of bets are located is identical.

You'll notice that there is always a menu on the left side of the screen that lets you more quickly jump to different sports and leagues as compared to the mobile app.

Also, the bet slip is always located on the right side of the screen, making it easy to see how many selections you have and what your odds on a parlay would be.

In my experience, the Parx website has fewer of the annoying issues that the mobile app has. I find it to be less glitchy and generally more responsive than the mobile app.

Here are some screenshots of the Parx Sportsbook website (click to expand):

Stability

The biggest problem I've run into with the Parx Sportsbook app is constantly getting logged out. While this is generally a problem to some extent with most online sportsbooks, I find it happening much more often with Parx.

I've also read many customer reviews complaining that Parx has trouble verifying that they are in Pennsylvania, even when they are nowhere close to the border.

Other issues I've found include not being able to hit certain buttons, not being able to exit out of specific screens, and not being able to close out the app at all.

When you enter in your login info, it often glitches out, crashes, or returns an error message. Sometimes it can take upwards of 10+ attempts before I am able to login successfully.

It's extremely frustrating when this happens, especially when I'm trying to live bet on a game since the odds change so fast.

Parx Sportsbook Customer Reviews

As of the time of this writing, the Parx Sportsbook app has an average rating of 2.6 from 278 reviews in the Apple App Store.

Most of the positive reviews mentioned the user interface, generous intro promo for new customers, and wide variety of sports and bet types available.

Here is what I've most commonly seen in negative reviews:

  • Getting logged out frequently
  • App glitching out or crashing
  • Poor customer service
  • Withdrawals regularly taking 2+ weeks
  • App having trouble verifying location
  • No PayPal as a deposit/withdrawal method

Parx Sportsbook Educational & Responsible Gaming Resources

Like any form of gambling, there is always a risk of losing your money when sports betting—especially if you don't fully understand how it works. In addition, gambling addiction is a serious problem that is easier to fall into than most people realize.

For that reason, when rating sportsbooks, I consider what kind of educational resources they provide and what responsible gaming resources and limits they have in place.

Educational resources

You can find team statistics for all major sports leagues in the Parx Sportsbook app and website. You can see how each team has performed over its last 3 games, results of previous head-to-head matchups, and more.

As of the time of this writing, I find that the “View more stats” button within a specific game doesn't work on either mobile or the full website.

Regardless, the stats shown are useful for making more educated decisions when betting. For example, if the Chiefs are playing the Raiders, you can look at past head-to-head matchups to get an idea of how much the winning team won by and what the total score was.

Aside from the team statistics, Parx also offers a relatively in-depth guide to sports betting that goes over types of bets and specific information you need to know for betting on most popular sports.

Responsible gaming resources & limits

Parx has a helpful responsible gaming guide that goes over the tools they have to help you manage your gambling, organizations and resources where you can find more help, the limits Parx has in place to help you gamble responsibly, and more.

Here are the limits and other things Parx offers to help you ensure you are playing responsibly:

  • Time limit. Limits the total amount of time you can spend on the website or app in a single day.
  • Deposit limit. Limits how much you can deposit to your account on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
  • Wager limit. Limits the total amount you can wager in a daily, weekly, or monthly period.
  • Max bet limit. Prevents you from wagering more than your limit on any single bet.
  • Timeout. Voluntarily suspend your account for 72 hours or more.
  • Self-exclusion. Temporarily close your account for a period of 12 months or more. Note that this is irreversible until the period you choose is over.
If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, you can also call 1-800-GAMBLER to get help.
