PointsBet was the fourth major betting operator to offer its services in Iowa. The Australian giant’s app and website went live in January 2021, shortly after the state repealed the obligatory in-person registration.

The following guide will tell you all about how to use the PointsBet Iowa promo code to claim the intro bonus, how the sportsbook’s odds stack up, the user experience, and everything else you need to know to decide if this sportsbook is right for you.

PointsBet Iowa Bonus Code & Intro Promo

PointsBet IA takes its welcome bonus offer to the next level with not one but ten second chance bets for new users of $100 each.

There is no PointsBet Iowa promo code required to receive the welcome offer when registering.

If your first fixed-odds bet loses, PointsBet will refund your wager up to $100 in bet credits. Then, each day after that, you'll receive a new Second Chance Bet of $100 that is good for that day only.

You have 7 days to use each bet credit once it hits your account and there are no odds restrictions on what you're allowed to bet.

Check out more details about the PointsBet promo code and intro bonus here or read on for more information.

How to Put PointsBet IA Promo Code to Work to Receive the Intro Bonus

When you sign up to PointsBet Iowa, there is no need to add a promo code. You used to have to use PointsBet promo code ODDS2000 to receive the offer but that's no longer required.

Should you lose the first fixed-odds wager, PointsBet Iowa will match your stake in bet credits up to $100.

You'll receive a new Second Chance Bet each day after that for the next 9 days (10 days total including the day you placed your first bet).

If you lose any Second Chance Bet, the bet credits should reach your account within 24 hours following bet settlement. You’ll have 7 days from the moment you receive the bet credits to use them.

Important Information About the PointsBet IA Intro Promo

PointsBet’s intro promo is one of the most unique and valuable currently available. While most other Iowa sportsbooks offer a single second chance bet as their welcome bonus, PointsBet gives five.

Here are some details to keep an eye on.

  • PointsBetting vs. Fixed Odds. The PointsBet Second Chance Bets are only eligible for fixed odds bets, not PointsBetting bets. PointsBetting is PointsBet’s unique betting system that allows you to win or lose more money depending on how far off the result is from what you chose. For example, if you bet the Broncos -6.5 and they end up winning by 10, you would win more than you would if they only won by 7. A fixed-odds bet is a standard bet and the payouts don’t change based on the result.
  • Time to use Second Chance Bets. When you place your first bet, that is considered your first Second Chance Bet and is Day 1 of your 10 days of Second Chance Bets. Each day after that, your first bet for that day is considered the Second Chance Bet, but if you don't place any bet that day, you forfeit the bonus.
  • Time to Use Bonus Bets. You must use the bet credits (if you get them) within 7 days. This may sound like a short period, but it’s more than enough to explore the operator's various sports and betting markets.
  • Playthrough Requirement. There is only a 1x rollover requirement on the PointsBet bet credits, so you only need to wager them once before you can cash out the winnings generated from them. Note that you’ll only be able to withdraw the winnings stemming from bonus bets since the stake will be deducted from the total sum.
  • Eligible markets. There don’t seem to be any restrictions on either the second chance or bet credits in terms of odds or eligible markets.

PointsBet Iowa Quick Review

PointsBet Iowa is tied for first of all of the IA sportsbooks we’ve analyzed.

The 10 Second Chance Bets totaling up to $1,000 is one of the best intro promos currently available in Iowa. PointsBet also regularly offers generous ongoing promotions and odds boosts.

The unique PointsBetting system adds a unique twist to sports betting that is otherwise pretty much standardized across Iowa. PointsBet has a nice user interface on both the app and website, and they allow you to bet on all majors sports and leagues.

The only categories that we don't rate PointsBet as 5 stars are Intro Bonus, User Interface, and Deposits & Withdrawals—all of which it ranks as 4 stars (or “Great”) or higher. PointsBet’s sign-up bonus doesn’t have the same total value as other books (just $250) and it doesn’t have the variety of banking options as competitors.

Overall, PointsBet Iowa is a great option for bettors in The Hawkeye State.

PointsBet Iowa Odds Competitiveness

PointsBet regularly offers the most competitive odds for all sports that we've analyzed.

You can expect to see the standard -110 odds on most spread and total bets as well as competitive moneyline odds. You can learn more about how to read betting odds here.

Still, it's always smart to use at least a few sportsbooks so you can shop around for the best odds. This doesn't take much time but is important to become a profitable sports bettor over time.

PointsBet IA Odds Boosts, Promotions, & Rewards Program

PointsBet has prepared a great selection of bonuses and promotions for existing users, including odds boosts, loyalty bonuses, and many more.

Here’s a closer look at the ongoing PointsBet IA promotions all customers can claim.

PointsBet IA Odds Boosts

Booster Odds is PointsBet’s moniker for odds boosts promotions you can find in all A-list sportsbooks available in Iowa.

Typically, between 4 and 6 odds boosts will be at your disposal daily, and these will most likely apply to events from major competitions such as the NBA, NFL, NHL, and others. The enhanced odds are usually improved by around 20%. So if, for example, you placed an NHL player prop bet at odds +250, once boosted, they can easily climb to +300.

PointsBet IA Promotions

Some of the more notable promotions we have seen in the past that always seem to find a way back to the promo section are:

  • Refer-a-Friend: PointsBet knows how to pay for referrals. Once your friend wagers $20 in real-money bets, you’ll both receive $50 in betting credit.
  • No Juice PointsBetting: Don’t be surprised if you see that a PointsBetting market has no juice. This means you stand to win more, courtesy of PointsBet IA.
  • 2x Parlay Boosts: Daily parlay boosts are a staple at PointsBet. Usually, odds boosts will be available for parlays with at least three legs and certain single-game parlays.

PointsBet Rewards Program

Bettors from the Hawkeye State can also enjoy the PointsBet Rewards program. You’ll automatically gain membership in a program that gives you redeemable points for every wager you place from the moment you register.

For example, you'll get one Rewards point for every $5 bet on fixed-odds markets. The same number of points is received for every $1 wagered on parlays and PointsBetting.

Once you have accumulated 250 points, you can exchange them for bonus bets. Each point is valued at $0.01, so for 100 points, you will receive $1 in bonus bets.

PointsBet IA Sports Offered

PointsBet IA is home to dozens of sports you can bet on, including football, soccer, basketball, tennis, MMA, and others. If niche markets are your thing, you can place bets on darts or other exotic sports.

Still, players from Iowa are primarily focused on their collegiate teams. The rivalry between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones is seen in many sports, from football to basketball. The Cy-Hawk Trophy goes to the trophy room of the university whose team wins the annual football game.

PointsBet Sportsbook Iowa Types of Bets

Even though points betting is the operator's bread and butter, fixed-odds betting allows you to explore a wider range of markets. Here are some of the most popular options:

Betting on college sports has become a huge industry in Iowa. For example, you can find up to 30 betting markets on college basketball, but these won’t include prop betting on individual college athletes. Wagering on in-state college teams is allowed.

Also, we owe you a bit more info on the PointsBetting system. As we have mentioned earlier, your payouts or losses are determined by how close you came to predicting the game's final score. For example, if you bet on the Iowa State Cyclones to take home the Cy-Hawk Trophy at -6 and they win the game by 12, you’ll win more money. However, if the score goes the other way, you stand to lose more.

PointsBet IA Live Betting

The left side of the PointsBet’s homepage holds the entire offer of games in progress. You can find plenty of markets for live betting on basketball, football, tennis, and many other sports. If you are using the mobile app, press the “In Play” button to see the offer.

PointsBet allows you to cash out your bets on games in progress, but only partial cashouts are available.

PointsBet IA Same Game Parlays

When FanDuel introduced the concept of same game parlays, it was only a matter of time before other U.S. sportsbooks would follow suit. PointsBet is one of those operators.

Same game parlays allow you to merge player props, spreads, and totals bets from a single game into one parlay. The Same Game Parlay tab will become available when you choose a game. The option is more likely to be available for major pro competitions.

Signing Up for PointsBet Iowa

You don’t have to be a resident of one of the states where PointsBet operates to sign up, but you must be located in one to place bets. The only other restriction is that you must be at least 21 years old.

To sign up for an account, you’ll have to fill out some basic information including:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Date of birth

  • Phone number
  • Address
  • Password

After filling out this information, you may be asked to upload a government-issued ID (such as a driver’s license or passport) to verify your identity.

The whole process is quick and easy and should only take a few minutes. You can get an idea of what the registration screen looks like in the following mobile app screenshots (click to expand):

PointsBet IA Sportsbook User Experience

PointsBet has both a desktop website and a mobile app for users in Iowa. Both are highly intuitive and easy to use.

If you use your desktop computer, you’ll have to install special software called Player Location Check that ensures you are within Iowa state borders when betting. The mobile app has built-in geolocation software, so no additional installation is required.

In the top left corner of the desktop web browser version of PointsBet, you can find the entire betting offer, promotions, banking details, T&Cs, and other essential details about the site. You can quickly toggle between the different sections in only a couple of clicks.

As for the mobile apps, there are native apps for Android and iOS devices. The betting menu on both is located at the bottom of the screen. From here, you can access My Bets, In-Play, and other wagering options.

The apps run seamlessly, and once you make a betting selection, it is immediately transferred to the Betslip, from where you can use the selections and turn them into parlays, round robins, or teasers.

PointsBet IA Website Experience

We have no complaints about the user experience on the PointsBet website. The site has a slick dark design and doesn’t overwhelm users with large banners and hundreds of buttons. Everything is simple, and to the point, so even beginner bettors can work their way around finding their targeted sports and markets or information about promotions.

PointsBet IA Mobile App Experience

PointsBet mobile app looks slightly different from the website, with all changes made with limited screen size in mind. The main menu is at the bottom, alongside shortcuts to Sports, In Play, Quick Parlay, and My Bets.

Adding bets to your slip is effortless, and once the bet slip pops up, you can choose how to handle your multiple selections (single bets, parlay, round-robin).

Each game you tap on will have two main tabs at the top, Fixed Odds and PointsBetting, with the Same Game Parlay tab available for select games.

PointsBet Iowa Background

When Gov. Kim Reynolds signed Bill SF 617, sports betting became legal in Iowa. According to the provisions of the law, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is tasked with regulating sports betting. Each licensee can have up to three online skins and is due to pay 6.25% of its revenue as tax.

PointsBet teamed up with Catfish Bend Casino in Burlington to launch its retail and online betting products. First, the retail PointsBet Sportsbook at Catfish Bend Casino opened in 2019, while the online mobile app hit the scene in January 2021.

PointsBet Sportsbook at Catfish Bend Casino

The PointsBet Sportsbook at Catfish Bend Casino is a 5,600 square foot state-of-the-art sportsbook with 35 TVs, multiple betting kiosks, a bar, and a massive 163″ inch television where you can watch all the major sporting events. The betting kiosks are open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

PointsBet Iowa Alternatives

There's a lot to like with PointsBet including the unique PointsBetting system, one of the best intro promos currently available, and a great user interface.

There are, however, some PointsBet alternatives that may be a better fit for you depending on what you're looking for.

Here are some options to consider:

  • If you prefer lighter user interfaces: FanDuel
  • If you want a bet & get sign-up bonus: WynnBET
  • Our other highest-rated sportsbook: BetMGM
