Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City became the first legal casino in the U.S. outside of Nevada when it opened in 1978.

Since then, a lot has changed with the casino, but perhaps nothing bigger than the launch of its online sportsbook in February 2019.

Once New Jersey legalized online sports betting after the Supreme Court overturned PASPA in 2018, Resorts' digital arm—Resorts Digital Gaming LLC—created the Resorts Sportsbook powered by SBTech.

If you live in New Jersey, Resorts is a good option for sports betting. It offers better odds than most competitors, great ongoing promotions, and a wide variety of markets to bet on. There are, however, some key drawbacks to be aware of before signing up.

This Resorts Sportsbook review will go over how the intro promo works, pros and cons, common customer complaints, and more to help you decide if this sportsbook is right for you.

Resorts Sportsbook Quick Review

Resorts is a decent option for sports bettors in New Jersey. Overall, we rated Resorts as 3.7 out of 5 stars (in between “average” and “great”).

Resorts offers better odds than most other books, a decent intro promo for new customers, a wide variety of sports and markets to bet on, great ongoing promotions, and many deposit and withdrawal options.

On the downside, Resorts has mediocre customer reviews and the app doesn't have a great user experience. You also can't cash out of bets early or place round-robin wagers at this time.

Overall, if you live in NJ, it's definitely worth considering Resorts. We recommend using it alongside one of our other top-rated NJ sportsbooks so you can shop around for the best odds and take advantage of other odds boosts and promotions.

Resorts Sportsbook Intro Promo

The Resorts Sportsbook intro promo for new customers is pretty straightforward: a risk-free bet up to $250. There is no need for a promo code or anything else to receive the bonus.

Here's how it works:

If your first settled bet loses, Resorts will refund you with a free bet up to $250. For example, if your first bet is $100 and loses, you will receive a free $100 bet. If your first bet is $500, you will only receive $250. If your first bet wins, you won't receive a free bet.

Note that the intro bonus is for your first settled bet. This means that it applies to the first bet that either wins or loses. For example, if you first place a bet on a game for tomorrow then subsequently place a bet on a game today, the second bet would be your first settled bet.

The Resorts free bet only has a 1x rollover requirement, meaning you only have to bet it once before you can withdraw. You only receive the profit from the free bet; it doesn't include the amount you wagered. For example, if you bet the $250 free bet on a game with -110 odds, you would only receive $227.27—not $477.27 (which is the winnings + amount wagered).

Overall, the Resorts intro promo is average relative to bonuses from other sportsbooks. While there are others that provide risk-free bets or deposit matches with values of $500, $1,000, or more, there are others that only give $50 or $100 in welcome bonus value.

Resorts Sportsbook Odds Competitiveness

To figure out how competitive Resorts' odds are compared to other sportsbooks, we sampled a number of games for all major sports. Resorts is notably one of the best NFL betting sites and best NCAA football betting sites.

Resorts Odds Boosts & Promotions

In addition to the intro promo for new customers, Resorts also offers ongoing promotions and odds boosts. Here is a look into each:

Odds Boosts

I've found that Resorts offers odds boosts—called “Boosted Odds”—on some days but not on others. These offer better payouts on select bets, allowing you to earn extra money.

Since many sportsbooks don't offer odds boosts at all, it's nice to see Resorts offering them. With that being said, there are other sportsbooks—such as DraftKings and FanDuel—that usually offer more boosts at any one time.

Promotions

Aside from the sign-up bonus, Resorts has 3 main promotions as of the time of this writing to help you win even more money.

  • Parlay Boosts: All winning parlays with 3 legs or more receive bonus cash on top of the normal winnings. Bonuses range from 5% for 3-leg parlays up to 60% for 20-leg parlays.
  • Cashback Program: Receive 10% cashback (VIP-hosted players) or 5% (everyone else) on your monthly losses up to $10,000 in total cashback. For example, if have a net loss of $1,000 one month, you would receive $100 or $50 back depending on if you're a VIP or not.
  • Weekly Free Bet: Every week that you place 10 sports bets of over $1, you will receive a $5 free bet.

Rewards program

Resorts has a rewards program called Resorts Rewards that gives you points for money spent in the sportsbook and casino. You can redeem these points for cash that you can withdraw or use to continue betting.

The more points you earn, the higher the rewards tier you will be placed in. The higher the tier you're in, the better the points-to-cash conversion rate you get. Higher tiers also get special benefits such as exclusive offers, discounted stays at Resorts AC, and more.

Types of Bets Resorts Offers

Like most online sportsbooks, Resorts offers all major types of sports betting, including:

Resorts does not offer round robin bets at this time.

Live betting

Resorts offers live betting on all major sports including football, baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, and more.

Unlike most sportsbooks, however, you cannot cash out of bets that are still in progress. Once you place a bet, you are stuck with it.

Same game parlays

In the last year or so, “same game parlays” have become very popular after major sportsbooks—such as FanDuel—started offering them.

Unfortunately, Resorts does not offer true same game parlays.

Resorts only allows you to combine sides (spreads or moneyline bets) with totals. You cannot also include player props or game props from the same game in a parlay.

You can see sportsbooks that offer same game parlays here.

Signing Up for the Resorts Sportsbook

You don’t have to be a resident of New Jersey to sign up for the sportsbook, but you must be physically located there to place bets. The only other restriction is that you must be at least 21 years old.

To sign up for an account, you’ll have to fill out some basic information including:

  • Email
  • Password
  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Gender
  • Phone number
  • Last 4 digits of Social Security number

After filling out this information, you may be asked to upload a government-issued ID (such as a driver’s license or passport) to verify your identity.

The whole process is quick and easy and should only take a few minutes.

You can get an idea of what the registration screen looks like in the following mobile screenshots (click to expand):

Resorts Deposit & Withdrawal Methods

It’s easy to deposit and withdraw money into/out of your Resorts account and there are a few methods to choose from that are highlighted below. You can deposit and withdraw money from any location—even if you are outside of New Jersey.

Note that Resorts does not charge any fees for depositing or withdrawing money but your bank might.

While there aren't many listed withdrawal wait times on the Resorts site, there are many customer reviews that complain about the lengthy withdrawal process. It seems that Resorts often requires additional identity verification which can add to the time to receive your money.

Resorts Sportsbook App & Website Experience

You can bet with Resorts through its website or mobile app (iOS & Android). The app or website will verify your location to ensure you are located in New Jersey before allowing you to bet.

You may be required to download an application to your computer to help verify your location or grant the website/mobile app access to your location.

Note that you don't have to be a resident of New Jersey to bet with Resorts; you just have to be physically located there to actually place the bets.

Overall, both the Resorts website and mobile app provide a decent user experience. Both follow a similar format to most sportsbooks and outside of a few quirks, both are easy to navigate and use.

We rated the Resorts Sportsbook a 3 out of 5—or “average”—when it comes to the user experience.

Here are some specific notes about the mobile app and website:

Resorts Sportsbook Mobile App Notes

Once you download the Resorts Casino app, you'll notice that the sportsbook isn't prominently featured on the homepage. To get to it, you'll have to open up the hamburger menu in the top left corner, hit “Sportsbook” then “Bet on Sports”.

Off the bat, this is a little annoying. Not only does it takes a few clicks to get to the sportsbook every time you open the app, but there is also no home button that goes back to the homepage of the sportsbook.

Navigation

Once you get into the sportsbook, you'll notice a few horizontal menus throughout. These are what you'll use to jump to different sports, leagues, and other sections of the site.

The “All Sports” button towards the top left of your screen will open up a list of all sports offered.

Choosing bets

Once you click into a sport, you'll typically see the spread, moneyline, and total for each game (depending on which sport it is). It's nice that all 3 are shown from this screen instead of making you click into a game or use a filter to switch between them.

Adding some colors, team logos, or additional colors to these pages would make it easier to distinguish games so you can find what you're looking for more quickly. It's not terribly hard to find games—just one area that stood out to me with potential for improvement.

Once you click into a specific game, you can switch between different categories of bets such as all, player props, half/quarter spreads and totals, and buying/selling points. This section could use a bit more structure to make it easier to find what you're looking for, but once you get used to it, it's not too bad.

Betslip

Once you make a selection, a button for the betslip will pop up at the bottom of the screen. Hitting this will cause the betslip to slide in from the right side of the screen where you can place bets. If you're not ready to bet yet—such as if you want to build a parlay—then you can continue adding selections until you're ready.

Unlike some other sportsbooks, there isn't an easy way to turn a parlay into a teaser from the betslip. If you want to make a teaser, you'll have to manually select each alternate line.

Screenshots

Here are some screenshots of the Resorts Sportsbook mobile app (click to expand):

Resorts Sportsbook Website Notes

You'll notice that the Resorts Casino & Sportsbook website is very similar to the mobile app. They both have the same basic design and general structure. Like the app, you'll have to click “Sportsbook” then “Bet on Sports” to access the sportsbook.

Navigation

One benefit of the website as compared to the app is that you can always see the A-Z  sports menu on the left side of the screen, making it easy to jump around to different parts of the sportsbook. There are also the same horizontal menus that make it easy to jump to popular parts of the book.

Betslip

Another benefit of the Resorts website is that the betslip is always shown on the right side of the screen. This allows you to see how many selections you have made and what your current odds on a parlay would be.

A note about odds boosts

One weird thing I've noticed about the Resorts website is that sometimes the odds boosts section isn't shown by default like it is on the mobile app. If this happens to you, searching “boosted odds” may bring up the page.

Screenshots

Here are some screenshots of the Resorts Sportsbook website (click to expand):

Stability

The main issue I've run into with the Resorts app and website is them taking a while to load at times when moving to different parts of the sportsbook. This isn't a huge deal but I find that they are as smooth as other books like FanDuel or DraftKings.

In customer reviews online, I've seen many complaints of the app glitching out/getting stuck and people getting logged out frequently. Also, some users noted that the app frequently has trouble verifying that they are in New Jersey, even when they are nowhere near the state border.

Resorts Customer Support

You can reach Resorts customer support via the following methods:

Resorts Background & Locations

Owner: Resorts Digital Gaming LLC

Resorts Background: Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City became the first legal casino in the U.S. outside of Nevada when it opened in 1978. Once New Jersey legalized online sports betting, Resorts quickly prepared to enter the market, launching its NJ sportsbook in February of 2019.

Resorts Customer Reviews

The Resorts Sportsbook reviews online are a bit of a mixed bag. There are some positive reviews that talk about the wide selection of sports and betting markets available. There are also many negative reviews which we'll cover below.

In the Apple App Store, the mobile app has an average score of 2.2 from 116 reviews as of the time of this writing. Many of these reviews refer to the casino, however, so the overall rating should be taken with a grain of salt.

Of the customers who talked about the app, in general, or specifically about the sportsbook, here are some common complaints I've seen:

  • Poor customer service
  • Lengthy withdrawal process
  • App not being able to verify location
  • Getting logged out frequently
  • Long loading times
  • App being glitchy or crashing

Resorts Educational & Responsible Gaming Resources

Like any form of gambling, there is always a risk of losing your money when sports betting—especially if you don't fully understand how it works. In addition, gambling addiction is a serious problem that is easier to fall into than most people realize.

For that reason, when rating sportsbooks, I considered what kind of educational resources they provide and what responsible gambling resources and limits they have in place.

Educational resources

Resorts offer two main educational resources to players: a sports betting guide and team statistics.

The sports betting guide consists of a series of videos that explains how the main types of bets work as well as some cool features of sports betting.

Resorts also has a statistics hub powered by Sport Radar that provides team stats for all major sports and leagues. You can see things like results of recent matches and head-to-head matches, standings, and more.

While it would be nice to have these integrated directly in the sportsbook, as opposed to opening up in a new window, they can still help you make better decisions when it comes to your sports bets.

I haven't been able to find any player statistics in this stats hub.

Responsible gaming resources & limits

Resorts has a relatively short responsible gaming guide that mainly links to other resources where you can learn about warning signs of gambling problems and where to find help if you have a problem.

It also goes over the limits Resorts offers to help customers gamble responsibly and take a break when necessary. Here is a quick overview of each:

  • Deposit limit. Limits how much you can deposit to your account in a daily, weekly, or monthly time period.
  • Spend limit. Limits how much you can spend during a daily, weekly, or monthly period.
  • Session limit. Blocks you from wagering after you've been logged into your account for a certain amount of time.
  • Self-exclusion. Block yourself from betting for a period of 1 year, 5 years, or permanently.
If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, you can also call 1-800-GAMBLER to get help.
