PayPal is one of the most popular online payment systems in the world, available in more than 200 countries, including the United States.

It’s an easy-to-use e-wallet that’s accessed by millions of users worldwide daily, and many of those users consider PayPal the most convenient option for making deposits and withdrawals with online sports betting platforms.

This article will discuss using PayPal for online betting sites. This guide goes over PayPal sportsbooks as well as how to use PayPal for sports betting.

In total, we've analyzed and reviewed 23 PayPal betting sites.

Our ratings are based on 8 categories including odds, intro promo, promotions & odds boosts, sports & bets offered, user interface, deposits & withdrawals, customer reviews, and education & statistics.

If your opening bet at Caesars loses, you'll receive a Bonus bet of equal value as a refund, up to $1,000. You must use the Bonus Bet within 14 days once it hits your account. Access it with our exclusive link here.

Caesars Sportsbook made huge strides in our online sportsbook rankings after purchasing and integrating with William Hill.

Caesars offers PayPal deposits (which are instant) as well as withdrawals (which take up to 72 hours).

Caesars offers one of the best intro promos for new customers—a Bonus Bet up to $1,000 after signing up with promo code OA1000. Once you receive your bonus bets, you have 14 days to use them.

The perks of the Caesars Sportsbook don't end after you take advantage of the intro bonus, either. They offer the most competitive odds in the industry and have attractive ongoing promotions and odds boosts to help you win more.

Caesars also offers all major sports and bet types—including same game parlays that allow you to combine sides, totals, and prop bets from the same game in one parlay.

There isn't much not to like when it comes to the new Caesars Sportsbook. While it isn't my favorite user interface of all the sportsbook apps, it's easy to navigate and place bets.

Overall, if you are looking for a single PayPal sportsbook to use, Caesars is another awesome option to consider.

New customers receive $200 in bonus bets after depositing $10+ and placing a $5+ bet on any market. You will receive your bonus bets within 72 hours of your first bet settling and you have 14 days to use them once they hit your account. Access the promo with our exclusive link here.

FanDuel comes in as our highest-rated online sportsbook thanks to the competitive odds, generous promotions and odds boosts, variety of bet types and sports to wager on, and a great user experience on both the website and mobile app.

PayPal deposits through FanDuel are instant and withdrawals usually don't take any longer than 48 hours.

The bet $5, get $200 intro promo for new customers is also one of the best currently available. If your first bet loses, FanDuel will refund you in bonus bets up to $200. You only have 14 days to use the bonus bets (if you receive them) but you only have to bet them once before you can withdraw any winnings.

FanDuel pioneered the “Same Game Parlay” and offers the smoothest and most complete process for betting them. With these, you can combine prop bets, totals, and sides from the same game in a single parlay. If you've ever seen screenshots of ridiculous parlays from a single game online, it was likely a Same Game Parlay from FanDuel.

While we generally recommend using at least a few sportsbooks so you can shop around for the best lines and odds, FanDuel Sportsbook is a solid option to go with if you only want to use one.

BetMGM Sportsbook is another one of our highest-rated PayPal betting sites—scoring well in most categories we analyze.

PayPal deposits are instant and withdrawals may take up to 5 business days, but are usually faster in my experience.

BetMGM offers a competitive intro promo, a wide variety of sports and bet types, generous promotions and odds boosts, competitive odds, and a good user experience.

Another thing that sets BetMGM apart is that it offers true same game parlays (called “One Game Parlays”). Like with FanDuel's Same Game Parlays, you can combine prop bets, totals, and/or sides from the same game in one parlay.

Of all the sportsbooks we've analyzed, BetMGM has the best customer reviews. On the Apple App Store, BetMGM has a 4.8 score out of 5 from over 37 thousand reviews.

On the downside, BetMGM doesn't have player statistics available in the app or Face ID/Touch ID for logging in. While these aren't major problems by any means, it makes life a little bit easier when betting.

Overall, BetMGM is a great sportsbook and is worth including in your stable of sports betting apps.

BetRivers/SugarHouse offers a 100% deposit match in site credit up to $250. You have 30 days to use it and there is only a 1x rollover requirement.

BetRivers and SugarHouse are essentially the same sportsbook, they just operate in different states with a different brand name.

Both sportsbooks offer PayPal deposits and withdrawals. PayPal deposits are instant and withdrawals typically take just around 30 minutes.

We listed BetRivers/SugarHouse 5th on our list, but that doesn’t mean they’re a bad option for bettors. They have some of the best odds of all sportsbooks, regularly offering odds better than the standard -110.

The main reason why BetRivers/SugarHouse isn’t ranked higher is because of their lackluster intro promo match deposit bonus up to $250. If you only plan to deposit $250 or less in a sportsbook, however, it’s actually the best option since you get a 100% deposit match.

We’d be remiss not to mention the BetRivers’/SugarHouse’s loyalty program, iRush rewards. Bettors can simultaneously earn loyalty and bonus store points and redeem them for various perks and/or bonus money rewards.

Overall, BetRivers and SugarHouse are great sportsbooks that bettors in the states where they operate should definitely consider.

DraftKings will match 20% of your first deposit of up to $5,000 ($1,000 max match in site credit). You must bet the bonus 25x before you are able to withdraw it and you have 90 days to do so.

DraftKings Sportsbook comes in next on our list of the best PayPal sports betting option.

Deposits through PayPal with DraftKings are instant and withdrawals take 3 to 5 days.

DraftKings has competitive odds, generous promotions and odds boosts, variety of bet types and sports to wager on, and great user experience on both the website and mobile app.

The only categories where DraftKings doesn’t rank as “best” (5/5 stars) in are intro promo and odds categories—both of which it ranked as “above average” (4/5 stars) in.

The intro promo provides good value ($1,000 if maxed out), but the 25x rollover requirement is a lot especially considering you only have 90 days to bet it. Also, DraftKings doesn't offer same game parlays like FanDuel and some other sportsbooks do.

Overall, the DraftKings Sportsbook is a phenomenal choice when it comes to betting. If you go with DraftKings, be sure to read the fine print on the intro promo and bet the deposit match in time.

Betway comes in at #8 on our list of the best online sportsbooks that accept PayPal.

Deposits through PayPal are instant and withdrawals take up to 48 hours but are typically much faster. Actually, all of the banking options Betway offers (which are all of the major ones) have instant deposits and quick payouts.

Betway also offers a wide variety of sports and markets, including the coveted same game parlay. The only sport that we haven't seen on Betway that we check for is lacrosse.

On the downside, Betway only has mediocre customer reviews and a rather dull interface. While it is easy enough to navigate, it isn't as visually appealing as other books like FanDuel or DraftKings. Some customers have reported some app performance issues—though we haven't come across this in our testing.

If you're looking for a new PayPal sports betting app to add to your lineup, Betway is a great option to consider.

Benefits of Using PayPal With Online Betting Sites

  • Fast transactions. Like most other e-wallets, PayPal offers instant money transactions, meaning you won’t have to wait for long to load your sportsbook account balance.
  • Easy to use. Using PayPal is fast and simple. As soon as you open an account and make your first transaction, you’ll see that it’s pretty simple. You can see specific instructions on doing so in the next section
  • Secure. PayPal uses cutting-edge security protocols and encryption technologies to protect all transactions and other sensitive data.
  • Trustworthy. PayPal has been around for more than two decades and has built quite a reputation of being a safe and reliable online wallet and payment method.

How to Deposit Money Into Your Sportsbook Account With PayPal

Here’s how to deposit money into your sportsbook with PayPal:

  1. Open a PayPal account. Go to PayPal’s official website and find the Sign Up button. Follow the instructions to set up a personal account and connect it to your bank to deposit funds.
  2. Select a betting site from the above list. Check the available options and pick a sportsbook that meets your needs. You can learn more about our favorite options in our Best Online Sportsbooks Guide.
  3. Open a sportsbook account. You’ll have to go through the registration process once again. This time, it’s to become a member of an online sportsbook.
  4. Go to the cashier section. The banking or cashier section is usually located in the top menu of every online sportsbook.
  5. Select PayPal as your payment option. Once you pick PayPal, enter the amount of money you’d like to deposit.
  6. Confirm your transaction. After confirming your transaction on the sportsbook platform, a PayPal window will pop up, and you’ll have to log in to your e-wallet account and confirm the transaction once again.
  7. Have fun placing bets! And always remember to gamble responsibly.

How to Withdraw Money From Your Sportsbook Account Into PayPal

Cashing out your winnings using PayPal is an even more straightforward process compared to deposits. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Log in to your online sportsbook account.
  2. Go to the cashier page, click Withdraw, and pick PayPal as your withdrawal option.
  3. Enter the amount you’d like to cash out and confirm your transaction.

That’s it. If you already connected your PayPal, the sportsbook will transfer funds to your e-wallet balance.

Please remember that withdrawals often take more time, as gambling sites need to review and approve your withdrawal request. PayPal withdrawals are, however, usually much faster than other banking methods.

How to Transfer Money From Your PayPal Account to Your Bank Account

Once your PayPal balance is loaded, you can withdraw money from your PayPal account to your bank account if you want. Here’s a quick guide on how to do it.

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Go to the My Wallet page and click on Transfer Funds under your PayPal balance.
  3. Select a card or bank account. PayPal allows you to transfer your funds to an eligible card or directly to your bank account. If you haven’t connected a card or a bank account during the registration process, now would be a good time to do it. Just follow the instructions and provide all the required data to link the card or bank to PayPal.
  4. Enter the amount you’d like to transfer. Note the transfer fees, if any, imposed by PayPal.
  5. Confirm the transaction. Depending on your bank, your funds might be available right away, or you might have to wait a couple of business days before the transaction is processed

PayPal vs. Other Banking Methods

PayPal is considered easy-to-use and secure, but how does it compare to other payment options for betting sites? Is it the best option for you? Let’s quickly compare it to other available options in U.S. online sportsbooks.

  • Debit/Credit cards. Debit/credit cards are pretty popular in online sportsbooks, primarily because they offer instant transactions. The only issue is that their acceptance rate is relatively low, as approximately 50% of debit/credit card payments are accepted by online gambling platforms, which can be frustrating. On the other hand, PayPal has a much higher acceptance rate. You can see debit card sports betting sites here and credit card sports betting sites here.
  • ACH/e-Checks. e-Checks help you move your funds from your bank account to your online casino balance with the help of Automated Clearing House (ACH). They are usually instant and popular eCheck providers, such as VIP Preferred, are accepted in many U.S. online sportsbooks.
  • Wire Transfer. This method allows you to deposit your bank funds directly to your casino balance. It offers a high deposit limit, but acceptance rates may vary, as not all U.S. banks allow transferring funds to gambling platforms. Moreover, wire transfer isn’t the fastest method, as transactions can take up to a couple of business days.
  • PayNearMe. To use this option, you need to visit a local store that offers the PayNearMe services and deposit your cash directly to your account. This is a quick and easy method, but it limits transactions to $500 a day, much lower than other payment options, including PayPal.
  • Cash at Cage. Many online gambling platforms in the U.S. allow players to deposit in person in a land-based casino partnered with the sportsbook of your choice. These transfers are fast and allow up to $100,000 per deposit. However, cash at cage requires traveling to the casino, which could be hundreds of miles away depending on where you live, so it’s not the most convenient method.
  • Venmo. PayPal actually bought Venmo in 2013 and it is now offered it as a banking method at many sportsbooks. There is a max deposit limit of $5,000 per transaction, but there are no fees and deposits are instant. You can see Venmo betting sites here.

History of PayPal and Gambling

PayPal was established in 1998, and it soon started allowing gambling-related transactions.

After its merger with eBay in 2002, the wallet ceased to allow gambling payments for some time. Being a payment method for illegal offshore casinos didn’t go unpunished, as PayPal had to pay $10 million to the federal government to settle charges.

After that, U.S. gamblers didn’t have a secure option to deposit funds to offshore casinos. Neteller tried allowing it in 2006 but encountered legal obstacles.

PayPal was quiet until 2009, meaning it effectively stayed out of any online gambling-related activities for more than seven years. The company’s return to gambling was actually in the UK, when Betfair decided to start accepting payments via PayPal. The only difference was that the UK market was fully regulated, and PayPal operated legally in the UK. Other UK sportsbooks followed this example, and PayPal became one of the most popular options for the bettors on the island.

The popular payment processor announced its return to the U.S. gambling scene with daily fantasy sports in 2009. Since these are categorized as games of skill rather than games of chance, PayPal was introduced as a payment method in all states where DFS operators were available.

Finally, New Jersey was the first legal online gambling market that re-introduced PayPal in 2015. Online casino and poker players from New Jersey and Nevada were allowed to use the e-wallet on online platforms. This later expanded to other states that legalized online gambling.

After the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) ban was lifted in 2018 and online sportsbooks were introduced, PayPal became a legal deposit and withdrawal option on many online sportsbooks in most states that legalized online betting.

Deposits are instant, meaning you’ll see your PayPal funds in your sportsbook balance seconds after confirming your transaction.

The process is instant, but sportsbook operators sometimes need time to check your withdrawal request to comply with AML regulations. This could take up to several business days—typically one to four.

Does PayPal have deposit limits?
The most money you can send in a single transaction via PayPal is $60,000. However, users are often limited to $10,000, which is usually the maximum deposit limit in online sportsbooks. The minimum mainly depends on the sportsbook, and it’s generally between $1 (PayPal’s minimum) and $50.

PayPal also features limits for using the Instant Transfer feature to withdraw your funds from PayPal to the bank account or debit card. The maximum you can transfer on a debit card is $5,000 per transaction, which is also a daily and weekly maximum. The monthly maximum is $15,000. The maximum amount per transaction for banks is $25,000.

Can I use PayPal with offshore gambling sites?
While some offshore gambling sites might accept PayPal, we don’t recommend doing that as you risk having your PayPal account frozen or banned. Moreover, offshore gambling sites aren’t as safe as ones that are licensed and regulated in the U.S., meaning you have to be careful where you deposit your money.
