FanDuel DFS Review

Nigel Eccles, Lesley Eccles,  Rob Jones, Tom Griffiths, and Chris Stafford founded FanDuel in Scotland on July 21, 2009. The company started as a news prediction website but quickly switched to daily fantasy sports. It entered the U.S. market soon afterward, but the true expansion began in 2018 when the federal government lifted the sports betting ban.

Today, FanDuel is one of the industry-leading online gambling platforms, offering online DFS, sports betting, and online casino games. It’s one of the two most popular DFS brands, alongside DraftKings. You can learn more about FanDuel Sportsbook here or learn about the FanDuel Sportsbook promo code and sign-up bonus here.

FanDuel is one of our highest-rated DFS sites thanks to its great user interface, deposit and withdrawal options, customer reviews, variety of sports and game type offers, and overall quality of service.

FanDuel DFS also recently updated its welcome offer to include both a free entry and a 100% deposit match up to $100 which is offered by many top sites such as Underdog, Vivid Picks, and OwnersBox.

It’s also worth noting that FanDuel charges a $2.99 inactivity fee per month for accounts that haven’t been used in 24 months. The charge is due for as long as the account remains inactive The platform will provide a 30-day notice before starting to apply the fee.

FanDuel DFS Game Types

FanDuel offers many different ways to engage in daily fantasy sports. Most games follow a traditional salary cap format where you choose players that each has a value assigned to them while staying under the cap.

Players are scored like traditional fantasy leagues and the highest-scoring contestants win money.

Let’s review all the available options and see how each works.

Beginner & Intermediate Contest

This is a special type of competition aimed at beginners who joined FanDuel for the first time and is available for your first 50 contests. Moreover, if you have fewer than 50 contests but win a big prize, you will lose eligibility for entering beginner contests.

The contests don’t really have a specific format—they come in all shapes and sizes, including 50/50s, tournaments, and double-ups.

Once you’ve played 50 contests, you become an intermediate, which lets you access another set of special tournaments. Your intermediate status expires once you play 500 contests or rack up four or more $1,000+ wins on competitions.

Beat the Score

Beat the Score tournaments have a target score that participants need to reach to receive a reward. The prize pool is then distributed to all players with the goal score. This type of contest is also suitable for beginners and follows the Full Roster game style for all sports.

Friends Mode

Create and play with your friends in a private league throughout the season. This is a highly customizable and exclusive option if you’re the type of DFS player who enjoys competing against friends rather than taking part in open public contests.

Tournaments

Tournaments are your standard high-paying contests with guaranteed prize pools, where each player needs to pay an entry fee and compete with hundreds of others. These operate in

Multipliers

Players who win this type of contest will double, triple, quadruple, or more their entry fee, hence the name multipliers.

Head-to-Heads

You can compete head-to-head with another user on FanDuel. Both sides pay an entry fee, and the winner takes it all.

3 – 100 Players

This type of contest is similar to standard tournaments but with fewer players (100 being the maximum number).

50/50s

The goal of these contests is to finish in the top 50% to get part of the prize pool.

Satellites & Qualifiers

These contests have low fees, and the main prize is qualifying for a more expensive tournament on FanDuel DFS.

Single Game

This is a standard type of salary cap contest, but it only applies to a single game.

Daily Snake Draft

As one of the most popular options among DFS players, you are able to live-draft players with opponents. A team can draft the same player only once.

Best Ball

The live player draft takes place once per season, and the nine top-performing players in your team will count toward your overall score. The contestants with the best players win—no need to set your lineup each week.

Weekly Bracket Tournaments

FanDuel offers a Weekly Bracket game mode, which allows players to draft a team and play in a multi-week tournament against other players. The mode of drafting stays true to the salary cap format, but players compete in a knockout-style, multi-week bracket to determine the ultimate winner.

FanDuel Ongoing Promotions & Rewards Program

FanDuel doesn’t have a lot of ongoing promotions, but you can collect points and use them in the rewards center to claim coupons and other benefits. Alternatively, you can win vouchers via standalone promotions.

Free Voucher

As a regular FanDuel DFS customer, you can receive various vouchers that provide free entry into a contest. You can redeem them via the Voucher page or Rewards Center. Go to your Account tab to find the two pages and claim a voucher if available. Bear in mind that they come with an expiration date, so you’ll have to use them before that.

Rewards Center

Rewards Center is a hub where you can monitor all your promotions. It’s also the place to see how many FanDuel Points (FDP) you’ve accumulated and how many you need to reach the next level in the Players Club. The Rewards Center also allows you to claim vouchers.

Players Club

How Much of a Cut FanDuel DFS Takes

The popular DFS platform keeps around 10% of entry fees for most of the contests if offers, which is much better than many competitors.

FanDuel DFS User Experience

FanDuel is a comprehensive platform offering dozens of different contests. As such, the website might feel a bit cluttered at times. Newcomers might find it challenging to navigate it at first. Despite the somewhat steep learning curve, you’ll be able to enter contests quickly once you get the hang of it.

The site is fast and responsive, so you can also access it on an array of mobile devices without compromising the overall experience. FanDuel offers standalone apps for Android and iOS.

Once you login, you’ll see top contests for the day, followed by contests with the biggest prizes and many other options you can play. You can click on the All contests tab to see all options broken down by sport.

Once you select a contest, you’ll see what positions you have to pick and what players are available, each with an assigned value. Selecting players is easy, and FanDuel shows you valuable information for each, such as projected points, past performances, and news.

You can also use the Pick with Guru feature that makes the process a bit simpler by choosing between 3 players at each position while making sure you stay under the cap.

Once you choose your players, simply hit the Submit button and you’re good to go. You can see current entries in the Scores tab that shows your current entries and if you’re projected to win money or not.

Overall, the FanDuel DFS user experience is great once you get used to it. There are rarely crashes or glitches and entering contests and tracking performance is easy.

FanDuel DFS Desktop User Experience

The FanDuel DFS desktop experience has received similar high marks from players and from our team.

Upon accessing the website, you’re prompted with a signup link and a promotional offer. Either by scrolling down or clicking the navigation menu in the upper-right corner, new and existing users can quickly navigate to the game lobby.

The dashboard offers an aesthetically pleasing combination of live scores up top, a news feed to the right, and a summary of the user’s active and completed contests. A prominent banner features promotions, referral codes, and game types.

The FanDuel DFS Lobby page allows users to pick a game type, choose the sport (or league) that they want to bet on, and navigate to a feed of all active contests. Next to this feed are filters that allow players to whittle down their options and find the contest they seek.

FanDuel Reviews from Players

FanDuel DFS has better customer reviews than almost any other DFS platform. In the Apple App Store, it has an average rating of 4.8 from nearly 150,000 reviews. In the Google Play Store, it has an average rating of 4.8 from over 65,000 reviews.

Positive reviews often talk about the variety of contests, smooth user experience, and great customer service.

The few negative reviews often mention trouble withdrawing money, unresponsive customer support, and trouble verifying location.

With that being said, we haven’t run into any of these issues in our experience playing and the vast majority of reviews are 5 stars.

FanDuel Customer Support
