NFL betting is by far the most popular form of sports wagering in the U.S, with billions of dollars wagered each season.

Now that there are 272 NFL games to bet on each season—including the regular season and the playoffs, culminating in the Super Bowl—sports bettors have even more of an opportunity to bet on football.

The only problem is, it can be hard to decide which sportsbooks are the best NFL betting sites with so many options available. To help, we analyzed all major legal online sportsbooks in the U.S. to find the best specifically for betting on the NFL.

This guide also provides detailed insight into all things NFL betting so that you can take your football betting game to the next level.

Best NFL Betting Sites

Every legal sportsbook in the U.S. allows you to bet on the NFL. They would be leaving a large amount of money on the table if they didn’t.

Still, not all of them feature competitive odds, lucrative promotions, and other essential features we consider when reviewing sites.

The following list includes carefully vetted online sportsbooks that tick all the right boxes for betting on the NFL. Check them out, take your pick, and start exploring those NFL betting lines and markets.

Best NFL Betting Sites:

  1. FanDuel: Best Overall
  2. PointsBet: Best Intro Promo

  4. DraftKings: Best Deposit Match
  5. WynnBET: Best Low Deposit Intro Promo
  6. BetRivers/SugarHouse: Best Odds

If your first bet loses, FanDuel will refund you in free bets up to $1,000. You will receive your free bets within 72 hours of your first bet settling and you have 14 days to use them once they hit your account. Access the promo with our exclusive link here.

FanDuel is tied as our highest-rated NFL sportsbook thanks to the competitive odds, generous promotions and odds boosts, variety of bet types and sports to wager on, and a great user experience on both the website and mobile app.

The $1,000 No Sweat First Bet intro promo for new customers is also one of the best currently available. If your first bet loses, FanDuel will refund you in free bets up to $1,000. You only have 14 days to use the free bets (if you receive them) but you only have to bet them once before you can withdraw any winnings.

FanDuel pioneered the “Same Game Parlay” and offers the smoothest and most complete process for betting them. With these, you can combine prop bets, totals, and sides from the same game in a single parlay. If you've ever seen screenshots of ridiculous parlays from a single game online, it was likely a Same Game Parlay from FanDuel.

Whether you are looking for a single sportsbook to use or want to add another book to your lineup of options, FanDuel Sportsbook is one of the best options currently available. There's a reason FanDuel dominates market share in the U.S. and we think you'll be very satisfied if you decide to go with them.

PointsBet is offering two risk-free bets up to $2,000 for new customers, up to $1,500 for your first PointsBetting bet and up to $500 for your first fixed-odds bet. Use promo code ODDS2000 here to access it.

PointsBet comes in as tied with FanDuel and BetMGM for our #1 overall sportsbook for betting on the NFL.

The PointsBet intro promo of two risk-free bets up to $2,000 is the best betting bonus currently available. New customers receive up to $1,500 for your first PointsBetting bet and up to $500 for your first fixed-odds bet. Use PointsBet promo code ODDS2000 to receive the offer.

PointsBet also regularly offers many other generous promotions and odds boosts on each week of the NFL season.

The unique PointsBetting system adds a unique twist to sports betting that is otherwise pretty much standardized across the U.S. With this, you win or lose more depending on how far off the result of your bet was from the line.

PointsBet has a nice user interface on both the app and website, and they allow you to bet on all majors sports and leagues. You can also bet same game parlays (called “Single Game Parlays”).

The only category that we don’t rate PointsBet as 5 stars is Deposits & Withdrawals. While we still rate them as 4 stars (or “Great”), they don't offer quite the same number of banking methods as some other books.

Whether you are new to sports betting or are a seasoned veteran, PointsBet is well worthy of your consideration, especially if you want a valuable intro promo and like the unique PointsBetting system.

If your first bet loses, receive a free bet of equal value up to $1,000. You must use the free bet within 7 days of it being credited to your account but there is only a 1x rollover requirement. Access it with our exclusive link here.

BetMGM Sportsbook is another one of our highest-rated online NFL betting sites—scoring well in all categories we analyze.

To start, all new BetMGM customers are eligible for a risk-free bet of up to $1,000. There is no BetMGM bonus code required to receive this—it's automatically applied to your account after you register.

BetMGM also offers a wide variety of sports and bet types, generous promotions and odds boosts, competitive NFL odds, and a good user experience.

Another thing that sets BetMGM apart is that it offers true same game parlays (called “One Game Parlays”). Like with FanDuel's Same Game Parlays, you can combine prop bets, totals, and/or sides from the same game in one parlay.

Of all the sportsbooks we've analyzed, BetMGM has the best customer reviews. On the Apple App Store, BetMGM has an average of 4.8 stars from over 87 thousand reviews.

On the downside, BetMGM doesn't have player statistics available in the app and it can be difficult to get ahold of customer support.

Overall, BetMGM is one of best sportsbooks currently available, offering one of the best intro promos in the nation, competitive odds boosts and ongoing promotions, a great user experience, and everything else you may want in a book.

DraftKings will match 20% of your first deposit of up to $5,000 ($1,000 max match in site credit). You must bet the bonus 25x before you are able to withdraw it and you have 90 days to do so.

DraftKings Sportsbook is another amazing option when it comes to sports betting sites.

DraftKings offers competitive odds, generous promotions and odds boosts, a variety of sports to wager on and bet types (including Same Game Parlays), and great user experience on both the website and mobile app.

The intro promo provides good value ($1,000 if maxed out), but the 25x rollover requirement is a lot especially considering you only have 90 days to bet it. In order to take advantage of the full welcome bonus, you would need to deposit $5,000 then bet $25,000 over the first 90 days.

Like most other competitive online sportsbooks, DraftKings regularly offers NFL odds boosts and ongoing promotions—such as parlay insurance, ways to earn free bets, and more. Taking advantage of these is a great way to maximize your winnings.

Though it isn't quite our highest-rated sportsbook, DraftKings in undoubtedly one of the best options currently available and we think you'll be very satisfied if you go with them. Just be sure to read the fine print on the intro promo and bet the deposit match in time.

After making your first bet of $100+ on a market with -120 odds or longer, WynnBET will give you a $100 free bet. NJ & MI players get a $50 free sportsbook bet & $50 casino bonus. Free bet expires 10 days after you receive it.

WynnBET is the online sportsbook arm of the legendary Wynn Resorts. While it may not be as recognized as FanDuel and DraftKings, it is a great NFL betting option for those in states where it operates.

To start, WynnBET offers a competitive welcome bonus of a $100 free bet after just betting $100. After you make your first bet of $100+ on a market with -120 odds or longer (-110, +200, etc.), WynnBET will give you a $100 free bet.* While this promo isn't as high in value as others, it requires a much lower deposit to max it out.

Aside from the welcome bonus for new customers, WynnBET also offers many ongoing NFL promotions and odds boosts that allow you to boost your winnings, earn a free bet, or insure bets.

Though the WynnBET app and website aren't my favorite in terms of user experience, they're easy enough to navigate and place bets with.

All in all, WynnBET is a great sportsbook and is worth adding to your stable of sports betting apps—especially considering the bet $100, get $100 free intro promo.

*Players in NJ & MI will receive a $50 free bet for the sportsbook and a $50 casino bonus.

BetRivers/SugarHouse offers a 100% deposit match in site credit up to $250. You have 30 days to use it and there is only a 1x rollover requirement.

BetRivers and SugarHouse are essentially the same sportsbook, they just operate in different states with a different brand name. We listed BetRivers/SurgarHouse towards the end of this list, but that doesn’t mean they’re a bad option for NFL betting—actually far from it.

The main reason why BetRivers/SugarHouse isn’t ranked higher is because of their lackluster intro promo match deposit bonus up to $250. If you only plan to deposit $250 or less in a sportsbook, however, it’s actually the best option since you get a 100% deposit match.

To make up for this, BetRivers and SugarHouse offer some of the best NFL odds that we've seen. While most books offer the standard -110 odds on spread and total bets, BetRivers and SugarHouse regularly offer odds of -108 or -109.

The sportsbooks have been known to feature exciting NFL deals throughout the year. They’ve also run a few non-sport-specific promotions like the Daily Parlay Boost, allowing bettors to win an extra 10% on any winning parlay.

We’d be remiss not to mention the BetRivers’/SugarHouse’s loyalty program, iRush rewards. Bettors can simultaneously earn loyalty and bonus store points and redeem them for various perks and/or bonus money rewards.

If your first bet loses, Caesars will refund it with a free bet of equal value up to $1,100. You have 14 days to use the free bet and there is a minimum odds requirement of -200.

Caesars Sportsbook became one of the best sportsbooks available after acquiring William Hill and integrating its technology into the Caesars platform.

Caesars Sportsbook offers one of the best intro promos for new customers—a risk-free bet up to $1,100. Like with other risk-free bets, if your first bet loses, Caesars will give you a free bet of equal value up to $1,100.

The perks of the Caesars Sportsbook don't end after you take advantage of the intro bonus, either. They offer some of the most competitive NFL odds in the industry and have attractive ongoing promotions and odds boosts to help you win more.

Caesars also offers all major sports and bet types—including same game parlays that allow you to combine sides, totals, and prop bets from the same game in one parlay.

There isn't much not to like when it comes to the new Caesars Sportsbook. While it isn't my favorite user interface of all the sportsbook apps, it's easy to navigate and place bets.

Overall, Caesars Sportsbook is a phenomenal option when it comes to betting. They have one of the best intro promos, great odds, regular odds boosts, and a decent user experience.

Betway offers a risk-free bet up to $250 or $1,000 depending on your state. If your first bet loses, receive a free bet up to $250 or $1,000. You have 7 days to use it and there is only a 1x rollover requirement. Access it with our exclusive link here.

Betway Sportsbook is another smaller sportsbook, but is still competitive with all of the market leaders when it comes to betting on the NFL.

Our favorite thing about Betway Sportsbook is the fast payouts. All withdrawal requests are typically processed within 48 hours (and often much faster), meaning you don't have to wait long to get your money.

Betway also offers a wide variety of sports and markets, including the coveted same game parlay, which is available for all NFL games.

New customers can take advantage of the Betway intro promo—a generous risk-free bet up to $1,000 (NJ, PA) or $250 (all other states) that is refunded as a single free bet. Just make sure you use it within 7 days of hitting your account if you do lose your first bet.

On the downside, Betway only has mediocre customer reviews and a rather dull interface. While it is easy enough to navigate, it isn't as visually appealing as other books like FanDuel or PointsBet.

If you're looking for a new sports betting app to add to your lineup of NFL betting apps, Betway is a great option to consider.

Compare Odds at NFL Betting Sites

You can check out our team-specific odds guides or use the tool below to compare lines and odds of upcoming games by sportsbook. We also have a full NFL Odds & Lines Guide that includes the tool you see below as well as an explanation of how it works.

What to Look for in an NFL Betting Website

All legitimate U.S sports betting sites offer a variety of NFL markets. However, not all of them have competitive odds, generous promotions, fast and secure payment options, and many other things that we like to see in NFL betting sites.

Here are some things to consider when choosing which sportsbook is best for you:

Legal and Licensed in Your State

Legality is extremely important. Only by playing in a regulated online sportsbook that has a stamp of approval from your state’s licensing jurisdiction can you be sure the odds are fair and that your payouts will actually be paid.

On top of that, only these sites are legal and sanctioned by the government, so if you opt for offshore bookmakers like Bovada or others, not only will your money and wins be guaranteed and kept safe, but you may also be breaking the law.

You can check out our state betting guides linked in the menu of our site to see the top legal online sportsbooks in each state.

Competitiveness of Odds

The standard odds for spread and totals in the NFL is -110 at most sportsbooks (with the sum of each side being -220). If you notice your sportsbook offers worse odds (such as -115 on each side giving a sum of -230), you may want to look elsewhere.

While these small variations may not seem like a lot, over the long-run, shopping around for the best odds available can be the difference between being profitable and losing money.

Intro Promo for New Customers

Welcome bonuses for new customers are how sportsbooks attract players, and NFL bettors are often the primary target of these promos. You’ll often see betting offers including free bets, risk-free bets, and deposit bonuses that range from $100 to $5,000 in value.

In addition, the stated value of the intro bonus, it’s important to consider the type. No-deposit free bets are typically the best since they require you to put no money in, though these are rare and typically have much smaller values.

After that, deposit bonuses are preferable to risk-free bets since with the latter, you only get the free bet if your first bet loses and you still have a chance to lose the “risk-free” bet which could leave you out $1,000 or more.

Ongoing Promotions and Odds Boosts

It is a no-brainer that welcome deals attract players, but what keeps them playing at a site? That’s where ongoing promos and odds boosts come into play.

NFL betting sites often will offer improved odds on particular events, as well as free bets and other incentives to keep you depositing and playing. Your job is to dissect these offers to see which are truly worth betting on. Just because there is an odds boost or promo means you should definitely take it.

User Experience on the App or Website

Another important thing to consider when choosing a sportsbook is how user-friendly the app and website are. Is it easy for you to find the game and bet types you are interested in? Does the app crash regularly?

While you can almost always download the app to check it out before signing up, you can also read our in-depth sportsbook reviews linked in the menu of our site to learn more about our experience with each.

Types of Wagers Offered

In addition to good betting odds, the number of betting markets is also crucial for NFL betting sites. You want to play on a site that offers moneyline, totals, futures, and as many of those prop bets that spice things up considerably.

In addition, if you are interested in same game parlays—which allow you to combine sides, totals, and props from the same game in a single parlay—be sure to look for sportsbooks such as FanDuel, DraftKings, and PointsBet that offer them.

Live Betting Options

Live or in-play betting is the choice of many players these days and for a good reason. Being able to bet as the action takes place is exciting and the odds vary by the second. Browse for sites that allow you to bet live on all NFL games for the ultimate betting experience.

Deposit/Withdrawal Options and Speed

You need a site that lets you move money into and from your account quickly and safely. The more payment methods the site offers, the better, especially if e-wallets, online banking, and other systems are included.

How to Bet on NFL Games

The following list goes over the steps you need to take to start betting on the NFL:
  1. First, choose a legal sportsbook in your state (or a nearby state) and go to the website or download the mobile app.
  2. Register an account by providing personal details, such as name, DOB, address, email, last four digits of the SSN, etc.
  3. Visit the banking section of the site/app and deposit money.
  4. Go to the promotions tab to claim a welcome bonus offer, if available. Note: Be sure to read the fine print of the intro promo to make sure you follow the requirements.
  5. Start betting!

Types of Bets You Can Make on NFL Games

NFL betting is an exciting playground for players for one special reason—there are tons of different bets you can place on a single game. Here are the types of bets you can make on NFL games:

  • NFL Spread Bets – The spread bet is a basic NFL bet where you pick the winner of the game while factoring in a point spread that the oddsmakers have set. For example, the Chiefs -6.5 against the Chargers would mean that the Chiefs are favored to win and have to win by 7 points or more in order for your bet to win. The Chargers, on the other hand, have to lose by less than 7 or win in order for the Chargers +6.5 to win. (Note: Read more about how to read betting odds here.)
  • NFL Total Bets (Over/Under) – NFL total bets include wagering whether the total score of the game will be over or under a certain number. The sportsbooks give a margin, say 41.5 points, so you need to choose between betting the Over (42 or more combined points between the two teams) or the Under (41 or less combined points).
  • NFL Moneyline Bets – Probably the simplest form of NFL bet, moneyline betting includes choosing the outright winner of the game.
  • NFL ParlaysParlays include joining two or more events into a single bet that you win only if each individual event wins. In exchange for the increased difficulty, you receive a higher payout.
  • NFL Same Game Parlays – Made popular by FanDuel, same game parlays involve combining sides, totals, player props, and/or game props from the same game in a single parlay.
  • NFL Teasers – Similar to parlays, NFL teasers include combining several straight bets into a single parlay but with the point spread or total adjusted in your favor. In the NFL, the most common teasers are 6, 6.5, and 7 points. So for example, if the Eagles are -3, you would get the Eagles +3 on a 6-point teaser. In exchange for the decreased difficulty, you are given a lower payout on teasers.
  • NFL Game Props – NFL game props do not focus on the final score of the game but rather on things such as who will win the coin toss, who will have more turnovers, or the total number of offensive yards.
  • NFL Player Props – These focus on an individual player’s performance or who will win between a matchup of two players. For example, you can bet on how many touchdowns a QB will throw or how many passing yards he will have, who will have more rushing yards between two running backs, or whether or not a player will score a TD.
  • NFL Round-Robins – A round-robin bet is similar to a parlay except all of your individual selections will be combined into smaller parlays as well as the total parlay. For example, if you choose the Eagles, Patriots, and Broncos to win straight up in a round-robin bet, you would typically have four total parlays: (1) All three teams together, (2) Eagles + Patriots, (3) Eagles + Broncos, (4) Patriots + Broncos.
  • NFL Futures – NFL futures bets let you place a wager on the outcome of a future event, such as the winner of the Superbowl, the MVP of the league, NFL Offensive Player of the Year, NFL Defensive Player of the Year, etc.

How to Make Money Betting on the NFL

Betting on the NFL, like on any other league, comes with its risks. Winning is not guaranteed by any means and most people actually lose money.

Since the NFL is so popular and each team only plays a single game each, oddsmakers put a lot of time into pouring over data to find the fair lines for each. They have an entire week to get the pricing right; a big difference from a sport like baseball which has so many more games each season.

With that being said, it’s not impossible to turn the tides in your favor. You, too, can analyze stats and data, such as historical performance, line movements, and other trends that can help you figure out what to bet on.

Still, keep in mind that betting on the NFL is hard. You should see it as a form of entertainment and only risk what you are comfortable with losing. You can learn more about betting responsibly in our Responsible Gambling Guide.

Here is what you need to know about making money betting on the NFL:

Percent of NFL Bets You Have to Win to Make Money

When trying to win money by betting on the NFL, you must never leave math out of sight.

Know that all sportsbooks factor in a vig (sometimes called juice) into their odds. This is what they charge in order to take your bets and how they make money.

For example, when you bet $100 on a game with -110 odds (which is considered even money), you will only bring a $91 profit, or 91% return. The remaining 9% is that vig or their service fee for taking your bet in the first place.

You can use the odds to calculate the implied probability—or how probable a particular event is according to the odds. If you think the chance of a bet winning is higher than the implied probability according to the odds, then it may make sense to bet it.

Using the standard NFL spread and total line of -110, you can calculate the percentage of bets you have to win to break even. It comes out to 52.38%, and it is that 2.38% that makes it so hard to earn money betting.

While this might not seem like much, beating “Vegas” (aka oddsmakers) by this 2.38% or so is very difficult because of how much data and other resources they have for setting lines.

Tips for Betting on the NFL

Here are several tips to help you improve your NFL betting game:

  • Take advantage of the intro promo for new customers – Welcome sign-up deals in the form of deposit match bonuses, free bets, risk-free bets, and others are an excellent way to start betting on the NFL with a positive account balance.
  • Take advantage of odds boosts and other promotions – Odds boost and other ongoing promotions are great for both new and experienced bettors. These almost always increase the odds enough to take out the “juice” the sportsbooks charge, making the chances of you winning money over 50%.
  • Learn to manage your bankroll – Always control how much you spend on betting and never bet with money you can’t afford to lose. Most pros recommend betting around 1% to 5% of the total amount you have to bet on each wager. This can help make sure you don’t run out of money too fast or start spending more than you want to.
  • Shop around for the best lines and odds – More and more sportsbooks enter the U.S. market every month. Once you have made up your mind about the bet you want to place, compare the line and odds at the sportsbooks you are registered for to find where you can get the best price. We always recommend using at least three sportsbooks for this reason.
  • Use statistics to make your decisions – As we mentioned earlier, you can use detailed stats, injury reports, news, and other analytics to make your selections and improve the odds of winning. Don’t bet blindly! Use what’s available to you to make the best choices.
  • Select your games carefully – Don’t bet on every game just because you can. Look at stats and analyze games to find the ones that are actually worth risking your money on.
  • Don’t just bet on your favorite team – Most bettors have a team they root for, but betting on it all the time is not what smart players do. Leave emotions out of it and only bet them if it truly makes sense. If you tend to think your team will do better than they end up doing, it may make sense to just avoid betting on them altogether.
  • Don’t chase your losses – Chasing losses is when you try to make up for lost bets by betting more than originally planned. Chasing losses is a huge no-no. It often leads to incurring more losses, putting you in an even deeper hole. If you have a bad day, that’s ok. Take a break and come back when you’re ready again.
