Michigan legalized retail and mobile sports betting in December 2019. The first land-based sportsbooks opened at casinos in March 2020, and betting sites went live in January 2021.
Today, there are 11 online sportsbooks in Michigan. FanDuel, Caesars, and BetMGM lead my ratings but don’t sleep on BetRivers, DraftKings, and Fanatics. Keeping your options open is smart—any of these sites might offer the best odds for the bet you’re eyeing, and spreading your action around helps you take full advantage of their promos.
I’ll break down everything you need to know about Michigan sports betting, including my top sportsbook picks and the legal stuff you should know before you dive in.
List of All Michigan Sportsbooks
In Michigan, each casino—whether commercial or tribal—can team up with one online sportsbook, making room for 15 total. With SI Sportsbook stepping away and WynnBet shutting down, some spots are opening up. But it’s tough to see anyone new jumping in and taking on the big names already dominating the scene.
Right now, 11 betting sites are live in Michigan. The lineup features a mix of smaller local brands and the major players that dominate nationwide.
Here are my top picks and why they’re the best:
- FanDuel: Best Overall Sportsbook in Michigan
- Caesars: Best Football Odds Boosts in Michigan
- BetMGM: Best Betting Features Among Michigan Sportsbooks
- DraftKings: Best Sportsbook in Michigan for Futures Betting
- BetRivers: Best MI Sportsbook for Betting on Local Teams
- Fanatics: Best Michigan Sportsbook for Live Betting
- ESPN BET: Best Sportsbook in Michigan for Betting on College Football
- Eagle Casino & Sportsbook: Good for Mobile Betting
- Firekeepers: Valuable Welcome Bonus
- Four Winds: User-Friendly Sportsbook
- Play Gun Lake: Good Sports Coverage
1) FanDuel: Best Overall Sportsbook in Michigan
FanDuel was part of the first wave of sportsbooks to launch in Michigan on January 22, 2021. They also run an online casino in the Wolverine State. For market access, FanDuel partnered with Motor City Casino in Detroit, where they operate a retail sportsbook.
FanDuel teamed up with the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings as their official betting partner, which connects them with the local sports crowd.
Looking at the whole package, FanDuel is the best sportsbook in Michigan. They consistently offer great odds and usually have the most competitive welcome bonus. Their user experience is second to none. This is evident in the site’s design, speed, and structure, such as having submenus for different prop categories that make navigation much easier.
FanDuel also brings a deep selection of prop bets across all sports. I like their season-long props, where you can bet on stuff like who’s going to win Best Assistant Coach in football. They’ve also recently introduced “Futures Fusion,” which offers unique futures combos you won’t find anywhere else, like betting on the Detroit Lions to be the Number 1 Seed in the NFC and the Houston Texans to be the Number 1 Seed in the AFC.
One of the few downsides is that their loyalty program still doesn’t include the sportsbook. I’d also like them to dial back on aggressively pushing parlays throughout the app. It would be better if they focused those efforts on bet types that offer better value—pretty much anything other than parlays.
FanDuel Sportsbook Quick Facts:
- OA BetReview Rating: 94/100
- Sign-Up Bonus: Bet $5, Get $150 Bonus If Your Bet Wins
- Best Features: Odds competitiveness, market variety
- Biggest Drawbacks: No sportsbook rewards program, not many daily odds boosts
- Number of Sports: 21+
- Payout Speed: Up to 5 business days (typically faster)
- Rewards Program: DFS & Casino only
Check out my FanDuel Sportsbook review for a full breakdown of the site.
2) Caesars: Best Football Odds Boosts in Michigan
Caesars entered Michigan through a partnership with Turtle Creek, where they operate a retail sportsbook. They also run an additional sportsbook at Leelanau Sands Casino in Peshawbestown.
Caesars struck a deal in 2022 to be Michigan State Athletics' official and exclusive betting and iGaming partner. However, in 2023, MSU terminated the partnership early after faculty pushback over college sports betting sponsorships brewed.
Odds boosts are arguably the biggest draw of Caesars Sportsbook in Michigan. They dish out over 40 odds boosts daily. Their football odds boosts really won me over, which they release well in advance. For example, ahead of the NFL season opener, they offered a solid parlay odds boost on the Chiefs, Lions, and 49ers to cover the spread, boosting the odds to +583—a 10% increase.
Caesars blew me away with their football futures, offering over 60 NFL season specials. You can bet on things like the Detroit Lions being the highest-scoring team or getting knocked out in the Conference Championship game.
Even though Caesars doesn’t have a land-based casino in Michigan, you can still reap the benefits of their industry-leading loyalty program online, earning bonus bets and other betting perks.
One issue I have with Caesars is that payouts sometimes drag on longer than they should. You might also run into situations where you're stuck waiting all day for support to get back to you, which can be frustrating.
Caesars Quick Facts:
- OA BetReview Rating: 93/100
- Sign-Up Bonus: Bet $1, Get 2x Winnings on Next 20 Bets
- Best Features: Loyalty program, user-friendly UX
- Biggest Drawbacks: Slower payout speeds, sluggish customer service
- Number of Sports: 23+
- Payout Speed: Up to 72 hours
- Rewards Program: Caesars Rewards
Check out my Caesars Sportsbook review for a full breakdown of the site.
3) BetMGM: Best Betting Features Among Michigan Sportsbooks
BetMGM secured its Michigan license through its sister property, MGM Grand Detroit. They also run a retail sportsbook on the premises.
BetMGM is the official sports betting partner of the Detroit Tigers, so you’ll spot their branding on the team’s social media and around Comerica Park.
Some sportsbooks might offer more unique features, but BetMGM has the ones I find most useful. My favorite, by far, is the “Edit My Bet” feature. This handy tool lets you tweak parlays while the games are happening—you can change your stake, adjust your picks, or drop one entirely. For example, if you’ve got an all-Michigan 3-leg parlay with the Pistons, Red Wings, and Lions all to win and then find out a key Pistons player is out due to injury, you can use this feature to swap or remove that pick.
Another standout aspect of BetMGM is its sports coverage. They offer odds on 30+ sports, including niche options like beach volleyball. They’re among the few books covering college baseball so that you can bet on the Western Michigan Broncos baseball squad.
User experience can be a bit of a sticking point. Sometimes, you need to double-click to place a bet, making you think it went through when it didn’t (I’ve been there). On top of that, their moneyline odds are often not the best.
BetMGM Quick Facts:
- OA BetReview Rating: 84/100
- Sign-Up Bonus: Up to $1,500 in bonus bets
- Best Features: Edit My Bet, NFL rewards
- Biggest Drawbacks: Quickly limits sharps, UX can be a bit buggy
- Number of Sports: 19+
- Payout Speed: Up to 24 hours
- Rewards Program: MGM Rewards
Check out my BetMGM Sportsbook review for a full breakdown of the site.
4) DraftKings: Best Sportsbook in Michigan for Futures Betting
DraftKings set up shop in Michigan through a partnership with Bay Mills, where they also run a retail sportsbook. They launched in the state on January 22, 2021.
DraftKings is the official sports betting partner of the Detroit Pistons.
If futures betting is your thing and you like making long-term calls, DraftKings is a top pick in Michigan. I like their futures betting program for college football. One of my favorites is a wager on whether a team makes the title game—like taking Central Michigan to reach the MAC Championship.
DraftKings brings the heat when it comes to game props. You can bet on creative options like the 1st drive result—whether it’ll be a punt, TD, FG attempt, or turnover. Plus, they offer live props for NCAAF games, with lines that change throughout the game for teams’ rushing TDs and rushing yards.
Where DraftKings falls short is in their odds—they often don’t stack up as well against the competition. They’re also known for hitting successful bettors with tough betting limits. While I haven’t faced this issue personally, it’s something you’ll see mentioned often in forums, Twitter, and Reddit.
DraftKings Sportsbook Quick Facts:
- OA BetReview Rating: 84/100
- Sign-Up Bonus: Bet $5, get $300 in bonus bets + $200 off NFL Sunday Ticket
- Best Features: Market depth, profit boost tokens
- Biggest Drawbacks: Odds not always competitive, quickly limit winners
- Number of Sports: 25+
- Payout Speed: Up to 5 business days
- Rewards Program: Dynasty Rewards

5) BetRivers: Best MI Sportsbook for Betting on Local Teams
BetRivers launched its online sportsbook in Michigan on January 22, 2021. They partnered with Little River Casino and Resort in Manistee, where they also run a retail sportsbook.
At the same time, they went live in the state, BetRivers signed a deal with the Detroit Pistons to become the NBA team’s betting partner.
If you’re looking to bet on Michigan teams, BetRivers offers some options you won’t find elsewhere. Their sports menu has a dedicated section just for the Lions, packed with specials for the football team. You’ll see bets like the Lions opening the season strong at 4-0 or predicting their exact number of wins. They even offer a “Stage of Elimination” bet, where you can pick the Lions to be knocked out in the Wild Card round.
BetRivers is also great for betting on niche sports, covering less common options like Gaelic sports and bowling. They even offer odds entertainment markets (which are legal to bet on in Michigan), including the Emmy Awards, Oscars, and more.
One thing that bugs me about BetRivers is some of the tech quirks. Sometimes, I get a “slow connection” message even when my Wi-Fi is fine. Plus, there’s that super annoying newsfeed that they still haven’t gotten rid of for some reason.
BetRivers Quick Facts:
- OA BetReview Rating: 82/100
- Sign-Up Bonus: Second chance bet up to $500 depending on state
- Best Features: Fast payouts, competitive teaser and soccer odds
- Biggest Drawbacks: Functionality issues, limits successful bettors quickly
- Number of Sports: 29+
- Payout Speed: Up to 5 business days (usually within a day)
- Rewards Program: iRush Rewards
Check out my BetRivers Sportsbook review for a full breakdown of the site.
6) Fanatics Sportsbook: Best Michigan Sportsbook for Live Betting
Fanatics launched in Michigan in February 2024 after taking over PointsBet. Their local partner in the state is the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, and they run retail betting shops at Little Caesars Arena and Northern Waters Casino Resort.
While Fanatics has a partnership with the Detroit Lions, it’s focused on e-commerce and sports gear. Right now, they don’t have any official partnerships with Michigan teams.
Fanatics is the best pick for live betting in Michigan because their in-play odds are sharp, and updates come through without lag. With their Genius Sports deal, you can also stream NFL games right in the app. They also have cashout options for live bets, and I’m a fan of their micro-betting markets—like betting on at-bat props during a Tigers game, such as whether a player will get on base.
I’ve got to give credit to Fanatics for their innovation. They recently unveiled a feature called Discover, which uses AI to personalize recommendations, offering key stats, trending games, and more based on your betting history. They’re also one of the few Michigan books that offer partial cashouts.
Their rewards system stands out, too. It’s a cashback program where you earn FanCash from your bets, which you can use to buy stuff like Michigan Wolverines gear.
That said, there are some things they need to improve, like adding a desktop platform, which they currently don’t have. Plus, their user interface isn’t my style—it feels busy and cluttered.
Fanatics Sportsbook Quick Facts:
- OA BetReview Rating: 81/100
- Sign-Up Bonus: Bet & Get Up to $2k in FanCash
- Best Features: Valuable sign-up bonus, competitive prop odds
- Biggest Drawbacks: Confusing interface, no desktop site, quick to limit winners
- Number of Sports: 15
- Payout Speed: Up to 3 business days
- Rewards Program: FanCash Rewards

7) ESPN BET: Best Sportsbook in Michigan for Betting on College Football
ESPN BET made its Michigan debut on November 14, 2023, when it rolled out its product nationwide. They gained market access in the Wolverine State through the Greektown Casino Hotel, owned by Penn Entertainment, one of the sportsbook’s co-owners.
The first ESPN BET retail sportsbook in the country opened at Hollywood’s Greektown Casino in downtown Detroit in April 2024.
If you’re looking to bet on the Wolverines, Spartans, Broncos, or any other NCAAF team, ESPN BET should be on your list. They offer competitive odds on college football and charge a lower vig than most of the competition. They’ve also got some unique football betting options, like wagering that a player won’t score a TD.
I’m also a fan of their “In the News” specials, where they offer odds on various season props, like Lamar Jackson averaging over 29.5 rushing yards throughout the season. In the “Who’s Your Goat” section, you’ll find creative futures, like Patrick Mahomes throwing at least one passing TD in every regular-season game he plays.
That said, there are a few downsides. The most noticeable is the speed—it takes a couple of extra seconds for pages to load on a desktop compared to other sites. Plus, the way markets are displayed in a game can be clunky, with no grouping into subcategories, so you end up scrolling a lot to find what you want.
theScore Bet Quick Facts:
- OA BetReview Rating: 73/100
- Sign-Up Bonus: Bet $10, get $100 in bonus bets if you win
- Best Features: Sports variety, competitive pre-game odds
- Biggest Drawbacks: Subpar user experience, not many features
- Number of Sports: 20+
- Payout Speed: 1 to 5 banking days
- Rewards Program: PENN Play Program

8) Eagle Casino & Sportsbook: Good for Mobile Betting
Eagle Casino & Sportsbook is a local brand that launched in Michigan in April 2022. Their mobile app, developed with GAN, works smoothly on all devices.
9) Firekeepers: Valuable Welcome Bonus
Firekeepers, a domestic brand, launched its betting app in July 2021. They’re worth checking out for their big welcome bonus.
10) Four Winds: User-Friendly Sportsbook
Four Winds is a Michigan-based operator that runs retail sportsbooks at several locations and offers a betting app with a solid user experience.
