DraftKings is a name that's hard to miss these days. It pops up everywhere, from stadium banners to podcast ads—even on your TV during commercial breaks.
DraftKings first launched as a Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) site in 2012. After the PASPA—a law limiting legal sports betting in the U.S.—was repealed in 2018, they launched their sportsbook in New Jersey.
Since then, DraftKings has spread to 25 states—the widest reach of any betting site.
With all the hype—from celebrity shout-outs to glowing reviews online—you might think DraftKings is the undisputed champion of sportsbooks. However, the reality is more nuanced. Yes, it's up there with the best, but it's not without its flaws.
DraftKings was the first sportsbook I used while living in Hoboken, NJ, in 2018 and I still use it to this day. After nearly 6 years of using the app, I have a ton of insight into what they do well and where they fall short.
DraftKings is excellent when it comes to their app performance, odds boosts, ongoing promotions, teaser odds, and overall flair for innovation. Their creativity is evident in their unique features and bet types.
That said, DraftKings isn’t perfect. Their odds are often worse than other top sportsbooks and they tend to limit winning bettors quickly.
Despite these flaws, DraftKings is still up there with the best. Even if you’re not completely sold, it's worth downloading the app for the welcome offer alone. I think once you start playing you'll realize that it's one of the best sportsbooks currently available.

My Favorite Parts About DraftKings
DraftKings Sportsbook is a great betting app overall. When looking at their best features, these things really jump out for me:
- Customizable odds boosts: I like how DK lets you pick which bets you want to apply your odds boosts tokens to. You’re not stuck with whatever they choose; you get to power up the odds you’re most excited about.
- Reliable & easy-to-use app: While the dark theme on DraftKings isn't my favorite (more on that later), the app's navigation is great and I rarely run into any bugs. The overall design and structure is one of my favorites alongside FanDuel and Caesars.
- -120 odds on teasers: If you're a fan of betting Wong Teasers, you'll be happy to find that DK offers -120 odds on 2-team, 6-point NFL teasers. This provides great value compared to many books who have now set odds at -130 or shorter for these bets.
- Insane variety of props: DraftKings' selection of prop bets is unmatched, except maybe by FanDuel. From game leaders to head-to-head player props and unique game props, the options seem endless. It's the go-to place for those looking for exotic bets.
- Cool future bets: DraftKings offers more than just the standard championship, division, or conference winners and player awards like MVP. They throw in some really unique futures markets, like the NBA "First Time Winner" market, which allows you to bet whether any of the 7 title-less franchises will win the championship or not.
- Handy stats hub: Other sportsbooks offer resources but none quite like this. Their stats hub is a treasure trove of insights, showcasing trends, patterns, and statistics. You'll even find trivia like: "The Magic have won each of their 17 home games against teams with a losing record." Imagine how long it would take to dig up a stat like that on your own. This handy feature is brought together by GTG Network.
- Fun pools: This feature comes straight from their DFS offerings, just tweaked for sports betting. You match your game-winner picks against those of other players. Outperform others, and you take home part of a prize, which can hit $25k+. Some pools are free to enter, while many have an entry fee of just a few bucks.
My Least Favorite Parts About DraftKings
DraftKings has been hyped quite a bit since launching—and they mostly live up to it. However, just like every online sportsbook, they’re not perfect. Here are a few things that regularly bug me:
- Subpar odds: Using a sports betting odds API, we analyzed the odds of over 7,000 games at major sportsbook and found DraftKings to have the third-highest vig, essentially meaning they "charge" more on each bet (worse odds). It's worth noting that this varies a lot by sports. DraftKings' NFL odds, for example, are some of the most competitive available.
- Dark interface: I know a lot of people like dark themes, but I'm not one of them. I know this is more of a personal preference thing, but I wish there was an option to switch between dark and light mode.
- Known to limit profitable bettors: DraftKings is known to limit profitable bettors and it doesn't seem like that's going to change any time soon. If you start winning consistently, you may find that DK limits your max stake to as low as a few dollars. It's not unheard of with other sportsbooks, but DraftKings seems to do it more often than most.
- Pushes parlays on customers: DraftKings' goal is to make money, and one of the best ways to do that is by getting people to bet parlays. While I understand that they need to make parlays accessible and develop a good parlay building experience, DK directs too much of their promotional effort towards them. This not only takes up space on the app, it can cause beginners to bet them more than they realistically should (never, if we're going by the math).
- Teaser option sometimes doesn't show: I'm a big NFL teasers bettor, so I end up using DraftKings a lot since they offer the best odds on them. I often run into an issue, however, where the teaser option doesn't show up. I'm not sure why it happens, but it happens often, and it requires me to remove the picks from my betslip and readd them. Not a huge deal but a weird quirk worth mentioning.
DraftKings Odds Competitiveness
ODDS ASSIST RATING: 15/20
We analyzed odds from over 7,000 games at major online sportsbooks in the U.S., focusing on the last 300 games in each league.
We found that the average vig at DraftKings was 5.30%, considerably higher than the average across all books—5.02%.
Other top players had charged much lower vig, on average, such as FanDuel (4.82%) and Caesars (4.92%).
DraftKings charges the highest vig in the following three markets:
- NHL totals: 6.90%
- NHL moneyline: 6.18%
- MLB 3-way moneyline: 7.02%
Here's how their vig breaks down by sport:
- NFL: 4.59%
- NCAAB: 4.86%
- NBA: 4.94%
- NHL: 4.97%
- NCAAF: 5.40%
- MLB: 5.48%
- Soccer: 5.58%
- Lacrosse: 6.51%
As you can see, odds competitiveness varies quite a bit sport to sport, and that should factor into whether DraftKings is right for you.
For example, if you're a big NFL or college basketball bettor, DraftKings is a great choice.
DraftKings generally applies 20-cent lines for spreads and totals (when you see an average of -110 on each side like -110/-110 or -115/-105).
However, for props, you often see 30-cent or higher lines. For example, a player's point total might be at -110/-120 or -110/-125.
On the plus side, DraftKings is one of the only books that still offer -120 odds on 2-team, 6-point NFL teasers. This makes Wong Teasers a viable betting strategy
I rated DraftKings 15/20 for their odds. The vig can be steep at times, but the odds aren't bad enough that you should avoid DraftKings altogether.
Here are three sportsbooks with odds superior to DraftKings:

DraftKings Sign-Up Bonus
ODDS ASSIST RATING: 14/15
DraftKings currently offers two welcome bonuses for new users. You can only claim one of the offers, so choose wisely (I prefer the bet & get offer)
- Bet $5, get $200 in bonus bets
- 20% deposit match bonus up to $1,000 (requires $5,000 deposit to get the $1,000 bonus)
The bet & get bonus is specific to sports betting, while the deposit match includes sportsbook and casino. These offers also differ significantly in their Terms & Conditions, as I'll explain below.
Bet $5, Get $200 in Bonus Bets Offer
The first offer gives you $200 in bonus bets after you sign up, deposit $5+, and make your first bet of $5+. You then have 7 days to use the bonus bets which you must bet at least once before you can withdraw any winnings.
- Minimum odds: No restrictions. Your qualifying bet and any bets with the bonus can be on favorites, longshots, or anything in between.
- Minimum deposit: There’s no deposit requirement per se, but you must place a bet of $5 or more to receive the bonus bets.
- Wagering requirements: Bonus bets carry a standard 1x wagering requirement.
- Time to use: Bonus bets must be used within 7 days of receiving them.
- Sports restrictions: No sports are off-limits; you can bet on any sport.
Requirements to Get 20% Deposit Match up to $1,000
The other DK sign-up bonus you can choose is the 20% deposit match. With this, DK will match 20% of your first deposit in bonus bets. This means it requires $5,000 (!!!) to max out.
You also have to gamble the bonus funds 25 times before you can withdraw any winnings. So, if you get the full $1,000 match, you would have to wager $25,000 before you can withdraw any profit.
- Minimum odds: Your bonus bets need to be placed on odds of -300 or longer (like -200, -110, +150, etc.).
- Minimum deposit: You will trigger this welcome bonus with a deposit of $5 or more.
- Wagering requirements: The bonus needs to be wagered 25 times before you can withdraw it and any associated winnings.
- Time to use: There's a 90-day period to meet the wagering requirements.
- Sports restrictions: You can use this signup offer on any product (that includes sports and casino), with no restrictions.
Steps to Signing up & Claiming Bonus
To claim the DraftKings welcome bonus, just follow these steps:
- Go to DraftKings or download the DraftKings app.
- Complete the registration process.
- Opt-in to the sign-up bonus you would like to take advantage of.
- Make your first deposit of $5+. If you opt for the deposit match bonus, this is the deposit that will count towards it.
- If you choose the bet & get offer, simply make a $5+ wager on any market and you will receive your bonus once the bet settles.
The DraftKings Sportsbook welcome bonus is flat-out fantastic. They're one of the few sportsbooks rolling out a deposit match bonus, which scores big with bettors. The bet & get offer is equally appealing, thanks to its user-friendly terms.
Here are three sportsbooks that typically have sign-up bonuses that are competitive with DraftKings:
DraftKings Welcome Bonus Quick Hitters | |
---|---|
Sign Up Offer 1 | Bet $5, get $150 |
Sign Up Offer 2 | 20% deposit match up to $1,000 |
Minimum Deposit | $5+ |

Wagering Requirements | 1x for bet & get; 25x for deposit match |
Validity Period | 7 days for bet & get; 90 days for deposit match |
Odds Restriction | NFL moneyline |
App & Website User Experience – My Takeaways
ODDS ASSIST RATING: 15/15
If you prefer dark-themed sportsbooks, there's a good chance that DraftKings will be your favorite betting app—at least visually.
The black-based app uses white and green throughout, along with league logos, team logos, and player pictures, to make it easy to find the games and markets you're interested in.
I really like all of the horizontal menus on the homepage that make it easy to navigate to different leagues, games, casino games, and other parts of the app.
Once you click into a sport/league, you'll see all upcoming games along with any specials that are going on.
You can then either view a specific game or look at a single market (like player points) across multiple games. The ability to see markets for all games in a league is one of my favorite features, especially when I'm looking at props like any time TD scorers.
I also really like how well the player props are organized within a game. Instead of just having a single tab with all player props, DraftKings organizes them into their own parts of the app, reducing the need to scroll significantly.
The same game parlay builder isn't as good as FanDuel's, in my opinion, but is much better than it used to be. I like how DK allows me to turn on and off dynamic odds to better understand which legs are correlated.
The betslip is constructed well and easy to understand. Whether you want to place a straight bet, parlay, or round robin, DraftKings makes it easy.
As mentioned in the “least favorite parts” section above, I do run into issues with the teaser option not showing from time to time. I'm not sure why it happens, but sometimes I'll add two NFL spread picks to my betslip and the teaser option just isn't there. Removing them and re-adding them usually fixes it, but sometimes I have to completely restart the app.
One last note: the search feature works really well. You can search anything from leagues to teams to players, and it always works well.
Overall, DraftKings offers a top-notch user experience. It's easy to navigate, easy on the eyes, and (most importantly) easy to get your bets in.
Sports & Betting Markets
ODDS ASSIST RATING: 7.5/7.5
For sports selection and market depth, DraftKings is truly second to none. Only FanDuel comes close in this regard. Let’s take a closer look at their betting offerings.
What Sports You Can Bet On at DraftKings: Every Sport Under the Sun

They also excel in market breadth—the number of competitions available per sport. Take motorsports as an example. While most sportsbooks might only offer Formula 1, DraftKings also includes odds for NASCAR and MotoGP.
DraftKings has 33+ basketball competitions, 110+ for soccer, and 19+ for hockey. These figures might seem abstract, but they nearly double what many sportsbooks offer.

DraftKings Market Variety: Options Galore
For me, market variety really comes down to props and futures bets. These wagers are the real indicators of diversity since other bet types tend to be pretty uniform across sportsbooks.
In this area, DraftKings leaves the competition in the dust, with FanDuel right there with them. Their knack for crafting unique props is unparalleled.
Let’s check out the props and futures DraftKings offers in various sports.
Props: More Props Than You Can Shake a Stick At
In every major sport, DraftKings is loaded with prop bets. They offer unique options you won’t find elsewhere. What’s more, they launch their prop offerings before other sportsbooks. Here's what you'll see:
- NBA props: Beyond the usual player props (points, rebounds, assists), DK offers alternate lines for player threes. They also have a head-to-head format for threes, matching two players with similar shooting stats. The props mix also includes the Race to X points for each quarter and alternate lines for team points. Combo bets are a big draw. They mix 2+ stats categories, like points and assists.
- NFL props: This is where DraftKings flexes its creative muscle. You'll find lines for touchdown scorers, rush attempts, receptions, and passing/rushing/receiving yards. Plus, they offer unique side bets such as team rushing leaders.
- NHL props: Hockey fans are in for a treat at DK. My top picks for NHL prop bets are “Goal in the First Ten” and “First Team to Score.” A fan-favorite game prop is a team winning from behind. For player props, they offer lines on assists, power play points, shots on goal, and goalscorer options.
- MLB props: What will the first plate appearance bring—a strikeout, hit by pitch, or another outcome? How many runs will the first scoring play involve? Will both teams manage to score 3+ runs? DraftKings has these game props and more for baseball fans. You’ll also find plenty of batter, pitcher, and innings props to choose from.
- Other sports: DraftKings' knack for crafting unique prop bets extends to sports popular outside America too. In soccer, they offer an intriguing player prop I haven't seen even in European-based books—a player to have 2+ shots on goal. In tennis, they serve up player props like the exact number of games won by individual players.
Futures: All Kinds of Specials
DraftKings dishes out a diverse selection of futures bets for fans of long-term action. Let’s start with the basics you can find just about anywhere:
- Championship winners: Stanley Cup Winner odds, Super Bowl odds, World Series odds, NBA Finals odds,
- Conference winners
- Division winners
- Individual player awards (Rookie of the Year, MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, etc.)
DraftKings also offers a variety of specials. They have odds on which division or state the championship team will come from. Plus, they offer “To Make the Playoffs” futures.
While DraftKings’ futures offerings are impressive, they're a bit behind FanDuel's. FD features unique bets like record breakers, the starting QB for the season's first game, and lots of team specials.
Live Betting
ODDS ASSIST RATING: 5/5
DraftKings really delivers on live betting, checking off every feature you'd look for. Here's what makes them a prime spot for live action:
- Tons of sports to bet on: At any point, you can find live odds for 7+ sports including darts, cricket, and snooker.
- Great variety in markets: You get a diversity similar to pre-game, but live. You can even place prop bets in real-time. For example, in a tennis match, betting on a tiebreaker happening in the current set.
- Top functionality: Speed is crucial in live betting, and few apps are quicker than DK’s. Switching between tabs is lightning-fast. Importantly, odds update swiftly without the annoying delay where you wait seconds just to be told the odds have changed after you’ve placed a bet.
- Live streaming: DK has one of the most comprehensive live streaming services among U.S. sportsbooks. Their DK Live platform lets you catch games as they play out.
- Live SGPs: DraftKings is one of the few sportsbooks that offers live SGPs. This means you can bundle multiple live picks from a single game.
- Micro markets: DK offers odds for play-by-play moments in many sports. In the NBA, you can bet on whether the next score will be a field goal, 3-pointer, or free throw. In tennis, you can bet on the winner of the next point.
All in all, DraftKings scores a flawless 5/5 in live betting from me.

DraftKings Reviews from Customers
ODDS ASSIST RATING: 4.5/5
DraftKings scores a 4.7 on the App Store and a 4.6 on Google Play. Based on these ratings, you might think it's all sunshine. But there's more to the story. A lot of people love DK, but not everyone’s singing its praises. It actually took quite a bit of scrolling through Google Play to find positive comments.
Some highlights from the good stuff people say about DraftKings:
- Fast payouts: Avery really appreciated how quickly DraftKings handled payouts (see screenshot).
- Nice social feature: Brian likes the quick cash outs and the group betting social feature (see screenshot).
- Good interface and support: A user on the App Store praised the slick interface and customer support (see screenshot).
The negatives piled up though. Here’s what users commonly complained about:
- Geolocation glitches: Jordan struggled with geolocation bugs, often having to restart the app for it to work properly (see screenshot).
- Login hassles: A bunch of players ran into login issues after an update in early 2024. Cory, for example, often got stuck with a “poor connection” alert (see screenshot).
- Withdrawal problems: La’Vascia reported trouble after trying to withdraw money in Oregon. Apparently, after she attempted to take out $10, her account was locked (see screenshot).
I checked out Reddit to gauge the mood there. I found plenty of discussion about their habit of limiting successful bettors.
Also, I spotted a thread where someone said they got wronged by DraftKings. They had a 6-leg parlay fall through on a Liverpool game bet for 4+ total shots on goal. DraftKings called it a loss, even though Liverpool hit exactly 4 shots. That should've been seen as a push, not a loss.
I've given DraftKings a 4.5/5 for customer reviews. They score as well as almost anyone though there still are some negative reviews out there.
Other sportsbooks I've rated well in customer reviews include:

Deposits, Withdrawals, & Payout Speed
ODDS ASSIST RATING: 4/5
DraftKings has more banking options than anyone but FanDuel. There are a bunch of ways to put money in or take it out. Plus, I really like their step-by-step guides for each payment method.
Just a heads up, though: the payment methods you can use depend on where you are. For example, you can’t use credit cards for betting in Massachusetts.
Deposits: A Dozen Ways to Fund Your Account
DraftKings supports 12 deposit methods.
They also support a range of payment solutions including gift cards, online banking, and e-wallets.
A common snag users hit is attempting deposits with a method not in their name. It's crucial to use a payment option that's yours and matches your DraftKings account name.
Below, we dive into the deposit methods, their processing times, and limits.

Withdrawal Methods & Payout Speed: Various Options and Quick Payouts
DraftKings offers nearly as many options for withdrawals as deposits. You'll find 11 different ways to cash out your winnings.
Typically, you can only withdraw using the same method you deposited with. If you need to switch it up, you'll need to reach out to their support team.
Also, DraftKings may ask you to verify your account before making your first withdrawal. To pass verification, you'll need to provide a government-issued ID and proof of address. Acceptable documents include passports, driver’s licenses, and bank statements or utility bills.
They handle cash out requests on weekdays (excluding federal holidays) between 9 am and 5 pm ET. If you order a withdrawal request after 2 pm ET, it waits until the next business day.
The processing time and limits for withdrawals vary by method. Check the table below for further details.

Odds Boosts, Promotions, & Loyalty Program
ODDS ASSIST RATING: 7.5/10
The welcome bonus is just the start of the many promotions you can snag as an existing customer. They pour more into promo marketing than most, a strategy that clearly works for them.
In their regular rotation, they offer daily odds boosts, referral bonuses, and a loyalty program. Plus, you'll always find at least 3 other promos running. When big events like the Super Bowl roll around, they go all out with a bunch of promotions.
Let's dive into the incentives DK offers its regulars.
Odds Boosts: Not Many, But Valuable
DK bucks the trend of having a dedicated section for daily odds boosts. Instead, their approach is more sporadic, with the number of available boosts fluctuating.
They spread out boosts across the homepage, within specific leagues, and for particular events. Plus, sometimes they shout out odds boosts on their Twitter channel.
They usually roll out about 10 odds boosts daily, tailored to that day's games. Boosts often range from 15% to 40%, usually without the max limits seen at other sportsbooks.
You'll see boosts for all the major leagues and occasionally for some lesser-known ones too.
What sets apart DraftKings is the use of odds boost and profit boost tokens—which are pretty much the same thing. With these, you get to pick which bets to boost the odds on.
I really like DraftKings' unique take on odds boosts, though I wish they offered more. Here are 3 sportsbooks that excel in this area:
DraftKings Odds Boosts Quick Hitters | |
---|---|
Number of Daily Odds Boosts | 5-10 |
Price Enhancement | Around 10% |
Profit Boosts | Yes |
Promotions: Referral, Insurance, and More
DraftKings gets creative with a lot of things, promotions included. Beyond the usual offers you see at other sportsbooks, they have unique deals like brackets, jackpot pools, and merchandise drops.
During the regular seasons of major sports, expect to find about 3-5 promotions. When the playoffs start, the promo efforts ratchet up.
Here are some current promotions DraftKings is running:
- NBA Threesday: Qualify by betting on the pre-game First 3-Point Field Goal market. For each three-pointer made in the game, you earn a bonus bet.
- All Sport Same Game Parlay Insurance: Miss on just one selection of your 3+ leg same game parlay and get your stake back as a bonus bet.

DraftKings Background
DraftKings launched in 2012 as a startup by three buddies from VistaPrint. The idea was to shake up the fantasy sports scene with their tech and marketing know-how. They started small, out of their apartment in Watertown, MA.
In no time, they climbed the ranks of the DFS world, squaring off with their archrival, FanDuel. The two companies reigned over the daily fantasy sports sector throughout the 2010s.
When sports betting became legal in 2018, DraftKings pounced on the opportunity right away. That summer, they launched their first sportsbook in New Jersey. It was an instant hit, thanks to some innovative moves and a horde of sports fans already cheering for them.
DraftKings went public in 2020. The next year was another milestone, as they made a splash by acquiring Golden Nugget.
Today, DraftKings is everywhere. When a new state opens up for online betting, they're often the first to show up. Their app is up and running in 25 states, plus they've got casinos in a handful of states.
They've also teamed up with big leagues like the NFL, NHL, NBA, PGA Tour, and UFC, cementing their spot in the sports betting scene.
Latest Developments
In March 2024, DraftKings rolled out a new feature named My Stat Sheet as part of their responsible gambling initiative. This tool helps users track their betting habits, offering insights so they can bet smarter and more responsibly.
