Sports betting in New Hampshire was legalized on July 12, 2019, making it the 16th state in America to legalize this type of gambling. After legalizing sports betting, it took New Hampshire a couple of months to officially launch, with DraftKings going live on December 30, 2019.
Anyone located within New Hampshire that is 18 or older can place bets on a wide variety of sports with the sole sportsbook in the states—DraftKings. While only having a single sportsbook in the state limits competition, the good news is that DraftKings is one of the leading online sports betting operators in the U.S.
Our guide goes over everything you need to know about sports betting in New Hampshire including DraftKings, rules and regulations, key dates, and more.

DraftKings will match 20% of your first deposit of up to $5,000 ($1,000 max match in site credit). You must bet the bonus 25x before you are able to withdraw it and you have 90 days to do so.
DraftKings Sportsbook is another amazing option when it comes to sports betting sites.
DraftKings offers competitive odds, generous promotions and odds boosts, a variety of sports to wager on and bet types (including Same Game Parlays), and great user experience on both the website and mobile app.
The intro promo provides good value ($1,000 if maxed out), but the 25x rollover requirement is a lot especially considering you only have 90 days to bet it. In order to take advantage of the full welcome bonus, you would need to deposit $5,000 then bet $25,000 over the first 90 days.
Like most other competitive online sportsbooks, DraftKings regularly offers odds boosts and ongoing promotions—such as parlay insurance, ways to earn free bets, and more. Taking advantage of these is a great way to maximize your winnings.
Though it isn't quite our highest-rated sportsbook, DraftKings in undoubtedly one of the best options currently available and we think you'll be very satisfied if you go with them. Just be sure to read the fine print on the intro promo and bet the deposit match in time.

New Hampshire Sports Betting Timeline
New Hampshire has a pretty lengthy gambling-related timeline that eventually led to legalizing sports betting. Here’s a quick overview of all events that took place in the past century and helped the Granite State open up for sports betting activities.
- 1906 – The first gambling activities take place at The Rockingham Park in June but are shut down after only three days due to gambling still being an illegal activity in NH.
- 1933 – Parimutuel and greyhound betting are legalized due to the immense popularity among NH residents.
- 1963 – NH officials pass legislation that legalizes and regulates the state’s lottery. New Hampshire thus becomes the first state to legalize lottery draws, paving the way for future gambling-related laws.
- 2014 – Three casino bills are introduced but two (1, 2) fail to pass. Only HB 1630 passed which further strengthened oversight to charity gambling activities.
- August 2016 – Rockingham Park closes its doors, leaving NH without horse racing options. There haven’t been any race tracks ever since.
- 2017 – HB 580 regulates fantasy sports betting in New Hampshire.
- July 2019 – Governor Chris Sununu signs bill H 480 that legalizes sports betting in the state, allowing online and mobile betting.
- November 2019 – New Hampshire votes to make DraftKings the sole sports betting provider of the New Hampshire Lottery.
- December 2019 – Sports betting goes live in the state, with Gov. Sununu making the first official bet at Shoppers Pub + Eatery at Indian Head in Manchester. The bet was on the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl.
- January 2020 – The DraftKings Sportsbook mobile app launches in NH.
New Hampshire Sports Betting Rules & Regulations
Similar to all other states in the U.S. that have legalized sports betting, New Hampshire has a set of rules and regulations that all sides must comply with.
The main regulatory body is the New Hampshire Lottery Commission, responsible for operating and regulating many other forms of gambling in the state. The commission has a special Division of Sports Wagering, which focuses on licensing and regulating sports betting.
Let’s answer some of the most important questions regarding sports betting rules in NH:
Who Is Allowed to Bet in New Hampshire
Sports betting is available to anyone that is 18 or older and located in New Hampshire with a valid account. You need to have a valid SSN to register, though you don’t have to be a resident of NH.
You can still register on the online sportsbook even if you’re located outside NH, but you won’t be able to place bets until you're within the state’s borders.
How the DraftKings and New Hampshire Sports Lottery Partnership Works
DraftKings won its exclusive license bid because it agreed to share 51% of the mobile revenue with the state, in addition to 40% of the retail revenue. New Hampshire opted to go with a single-sportsbook partnership instead of multiple to increase profitability.
Is Geolocation Required?
Yes, DraftKings uses geolocation to ensure that you are indeed located within the state’s borders while placing bets.
If you’re using the mobile app, you just have to give DraftKings access to your location. If you want to place bets on your computer, you’ll likely need to download geolocation software to verify your location.
Physical Sportsbooks in New Hampshire
You can make legal retail sports bets in New Hampshire via one of the DraftKings sportsbooks. The two currently available are at The Brook (DraftKings Sportsbook at the Brook) and Filotimo Casino (DraftKings Sportsbook at Manchester).

Which Betting Types Aren’t Allowed in New Hampshire?
The vast majority of bets on teams, events, and entire sports are legal in New Hampshire. The only exception is that sportsbooks aren’t allowed to offer wagering on collegiate events that take place in NH and college teams located in NH.
