Colorado joined the rapidly evolving sports betting landscape in the United States on May 1, 2020, when FanDuel, BetMGM, DraftKings, and BetRivers launched their online sportsbooks in the state. Simultaneously, land-based sports betting opened for business in more than 30 retail casinos.

Since the kickoff, the sports betting market in the Centennial State has grown massively, and a variety of A-list brands have entered the scene.

It makes no difference whether you’re a resident or a tourist in Colorado—you can place wagers on both domestic and international sporting events online and in person. As long as you’re 21+ and located within state lines, you’ll have an opportunity to get in on the sports betting action with a wide variety of online sportsbooks and retail betting venues.

To help you find the best online sportsbooks in Colorado, we've reviewed and analyzed each option to find the best overall as well as the best in certain categories. We've also researched important Colorado sports betting rules and regulations which you can find below.

If your first bet loses, FanDuel will refund it in bonus bets up to $1,000. There is only a 1x rollover requirement & you have 14 days to use the bonus bets. Access the promo with our exclusive link here.

FanDuel is tied as our highest-rated sportsbook thanks to the competitive odds, generous promotions and odds boosts, variety of bet types and sports to wager on, and a great user experience on both the website and mobile app.

The $1,000 No Sweat First Bet sign-up bonus on trails a few other sportsbooks in terms of total value. If you lose your first bet, FanDuel will refund it dollar-for-dollar in bonus bets up to $1,000. FanDuel's welcome bonus gives you the opportunity to build a nice bankroll to start off betting with.

FanDuel pioneered the “Same Game Parlay” and offers the smoothest and most complete process for betting them. With these, you can combine prop bets, totals, and sides from the same game in a single parlay. If you've ever seen screenshots of ridiculous parlays from a single game online, it was likely a Same Game Parlay from FanDuel.

Whether you are looking for a single sportsbook to use or want to add another book to your lineup of options, FanDuel Sportsbook is one of the best options currently available. There's a reason FanDuel dominates market share in the U.S. and we think you'll be very satisfied if you decide to go with them.

PointsBet is offering 5 Second Chance Bets of $50 each for new customers. You receive one Second Chance Bet per day for 5 days after signing up. No promo code required—access here.

PointsBet comes in as tied with FanDuel and BetMGM for our #1 overall sportsbook in the nation.

The PointsBet sign up bonus of 5 Second Chance Bets of $50 each is unique in that it is split up over 5 days and is pretty valuable. Instead of just one risk-free or second chance bet, you receive 5 of them.

PointsBet also regularly offers many other generous promotions and odds boosts.

The unique PointsBetting system adds a unique twist to sports betting that is otherwise pretty much standardized across the U.S. With this, you win or lose more depending on how far off the result of your bet was from the line.

PointsBet has a nice user interface on both the app and website, and they allow you to bet on all majors sports and leagues. You can also bet same game parlays (called “Single Game Parlays”).

The only category that we don’t rate PointsBet as 5 stars is Deposits & Withdrawals. While we still rate them as 4 stars (or “Great”), they don't offer quite the same number of banking methods as some other books.

Whether you are new to sports betting or are a seasoned veteran, PointsBet is well worthy of your consideration, especially if you like the welcome offer and like the unique PointsBetting system.

If your first bet loses, receive bonus bets of equal value up to $1,000. You must use the bonus bets within 7 days of them being credited to your account but there is only a 1x rollover requirement. Access it with our exclusive link here.

BetMGM Sportsbook is another one of our highest-rated online sportsbooks—scoring well in all categories we analyze.

To start, all new BetMGM customers are eligible for bonus bets up to $1,000 if your first bet loses. There is no BetMGM bonus code required to receive this promo—it's automatically applied to your account after you register.

BetMGM also offers a wide variety of sports and bet types, generous promotions and odds boosts, competitive odds, and a good user experience.

Another thing that sets BetMGM apart is that it offers true same game parlays (called “One Game Parlays”). Like with FanDuel's Same Game Parlays, you can combine prop bets, totals, and/or sides from the same game in one parlay.

Of all the sportsbooks we've analyzed, BetMGM has the best customer reviews. On the Apple App Store, BetMGM has an average of 4.8 stars from over 87 thousand reviews.

On the downside, BetMGM doesn't have player statistics available in the app and it can be difficult to get ahold of customer support.

Overall, BetMGM is one of best sportsbooks currently available, offering one of the best intro promos in the nation, competitive odds boosts and ongoing promotions, a great user experience, and everything else you may want in a book.

DraftKings will match 20% of your first deposit of up to $5,000 ($1,000 max match in site credit). You must bet the bonus 25x before you are able to withdraw it and you have 90 days to do so.

DraftKings Sportsbook is another amazing option when it comes to sports betting sites.

DraftKings offers competitive odds, generous promotions and odds boosts, a variety of sports to wager on and bet types (including Same Game Parlays), and great user experience on both the website and mobile app.

The intro promo provides good value ($1,000 if maxed out), but the 25x rollover requirement is a lot especially considering you only have 90 days to bet it. In order to take advantage of the full welcome bonus, you would need to deposit $5,000 then bet $25,000 over the first 90 days.

Like most other competitive online sportsbooks, DraftKings regularly offers odds boosts and ongoing promotions—such as parlay insurance, ways to earn bonus bets, and more. Taking advantage of these is a great way to maximize your winnings.

Though it isn't quite our highest-rated sportsbook, DraftKings in undoubtedly one of the best options currently available and we think you'll be very satisfied if you go with them. Just be sure to read the fine print on the intro promo and bet the deposit match in time.

After making your first bet of $100+ on a market with -120 odds or longer, WynnBET will give you a $100 bet credit. NJ & MI players get a $50 sportsbook bet credit & $50 casino bonus. Bet credits expire 10 days after you receive it.

WynnBET is the online sportsbook arm of the legendary Wynn Resorts. While it may not be as recognized as FanDuel and DraftKings, it is a great option for those in states where it operates.

To start, WynnBET offers a competitive welcome bonus of a $100 bet credit after just betting $100. After you make your first bet of $100+ on a market with -120 odds or longer (-110, +200, etc.), WynnBET will give you a $100 bet credit.* While this promo isn't as high in value as others, it requires a much lower deposit to max it out.

Aside from the welcome bonus for new customers, WynnBET also offers many ongoing promotions and odds boosts that allow you to boost your winnings, earn bet credits, or insure bets.

Though the WynnBET app and website aren't my favorite in terms of user experience, they're easy enough to navigate and place bets with.

All in all, WynnBET is a great sportsbook and is worth adding to your stable of sports betting apps—especially considering the bet $100, get $100 free intro promo.

*Players in NJ & MI will receive a $50 bet credit for the sportsbook and a $50 casino bonus.

BetRivers offers a second chance bet up to $500 in all states except NY where it's $100. You have 30 days to use the bonus bet if you receive it and there is only a 1x rollover requirement. Access it with our exclusive link here.

BetRivers Sportsbook checks in next on our list of the top sports betting sites/apps. It ranks as “best” or “above average” in every category we score.

The BetRivers intro promo is competitive with other sportsbooks. If your first bet loses, BetRivers will refund it with a bonus bet up to $500 in all states except NY where it's $100.

To make things even better, BetRivers regularly offers better odds than every other sportsbook—especially when it comes to the NFL. While other books have standard -110 odds, BetRivers often offers -109 or -108, meaning you have to win fewer bets to be profitable.

Aside from odds, you'll find everything bettors come to expect in online sportsbooks these days with BetRivers, including same game parlays, a variety of markets to choose from, a smooth user experience, and ongoing odds boosts and promotions.

On the downside, some customers have complained of bets taking a long time to settle. In addition, BetRivers doesn't offer team or player stats in the app/on the site—though you can usually find this info on other sites.

If you are looking for a longterm betting app, BetRivers is a great option thanks to the industry-leading odds and well-founded betting experience.

If your first bet loses, Caesars will refund it with a bet credit of equal value up to $1,250. You have 14 days to use the bet credit and there is a minimum odds requirement of -200.

Caesars Sportsbook became one of the best sportsbooks available after acquiring William Hill and integrating its technology into the Caesars platform.

Caesars Sportsbook offers one of the best intro promos for new customers—first bet insurance up to $1,250. Like with many other sportsbook sign-up bonuses, if your first bet loses, Caesars will give you a bet credit up to $1,250.

The perks of the Caesars Sportsbook don't end after you take advantage of the intro bonus, either. They offer some of the most competitive odds in the industry and have attractive ongoing promotions and odds boosts to help you win more.

Caesars also offers all major sports and bet types—including same game parlays that allow you to combine sides, totals, and prop bets from the same game in one parlay.

There isn't much not to like when it comes to the new Caesars Sportsbook. While it isn't my favorite user interface of all the sportsbook apps, it's easy to navigate and place bets.

Overall, Caesars Sportsbook is a phenomenal option when it comes to betting. They have one of the best intro promos, great odds, regular odds boosts, and a decent user experience.

If your first bet loses, receive a bonus bet up to $250. You have 7 days to use it and there is only a 1x rollover requirement. Access it with our exclusive link here.

Betway Sportsbook is another smaller sportsbook, but is still competitive with all of the market leaders.

Our favorite thing about Betway Sportsbook is the fast payouts. All withdrawal requests are typically processed within 48 hours (and often much faster), meaning you don't have to wait long to get your money.

Betway also offers a wide variety of sports and markets, including the coveted same game parlay.

New customers can take advantage of the Betway intro promo which refunds your first bet with a bonus bet if it loses up to $250. Just make sure you use it within 7 days of hitting your account if you do lose your first bet.

On the downside, Betway only has mediocre customer reviews and a rather dull interface. While it is easy enough to navigate, it isn't as visually appealing as other books like FanDuel or PointsBet.

If you're looking for a new sports betting app to add to your lineup, Betway is a great option to consider.

SI Sportsbook gives you $200 in free bets after you make your first cash bet of $20 or more. You have 7 days to use the free bets and there is only a 1x rollover requirement. Access it with our exclusive link here.

SI Sportsbook is another middle-of-the-pack sportsbook according to our Editorial Ratings.

While the SI Sportsbook promo doesn't have a ton of value relative to other betting offers from competing books, you only have to deposit and bet $20 to take advantage of it—much less than other books. Just deposit $20 and make your first bet on a market with odds of +120 or longer (+150, +200, +500, etc.) and you will receive $200 in free bets.

SI Sportsbook also offers a wide range of markets and has great ongoing promotions and daily odds boosts.

The biggest downside is that Sports Illustrated has worse odds than other books for certain sports. If you end up going with SI Sportsbook, it's worth using at least one other app so you can shop around for the best odds.

With that being said, the intro promo and ongoing odds boosts and promotions alone make signing up for SI Sportsbook worth it.

Team Partnerships with Colorado Sportsbooks

Colorado is on the cusp of becoming one of the largest sports betting markets in the country. In such a competitive environment, sportsbooks are constantly looking for ways to gain an edge over their rivals. Bonuses and promotions are doing wonders for them in this regard, but these can only get them so far.

That said, some betting operators have set up partnerships with pro sports teams in Colorado to help them expand their market presence. Here are some of the biggest deals that have been signed so far:

  • BetMGM with Denver Broncos: In July 2020, BetMGM signed a multi-year deal with the Broncos, which saw the gambling titan open a betting lounge at Empower Field at Mile High. What’s more, Broncos fans can take part in a free-to-play game via the team’s official mobile app, test their predictions skills, and win prizes provided by MGM Resorts.
  • FanDuel with Denver Broncos: Denver Broncos signed a historic partnership with the FanDuel Group in June 2020, becoming the first-ever NFL team to have an official sportsbook partner. As per the agreement, FanDuel will promote Broncos’ trademarks and logos via its mobile sportsbook and fantasy app. In return, the betting operator received access to numerous marketing assets from the NFL team, ranging from in-venue signage to TV, radio, and advertising through digital media outlets.
  • DraftKings with Colorado Rockies: The Boston-based daily fantasy sports giant expanded its partnership with the Colorado Rockies in September 2020 to become the first official sports betting partner in the team’s history. DraftKings will benefit from in-stadium branding rights at Coors Field and has the green light to use the Rockies logos and trademarks.
  • BetFred with Denver Broncos: Only a day after locking in a deal with FanDuel, the Denver Broncos penned an agreement with the UK-based BetFred that allowed the sports betting operator to open a retail lounge at Empower Field at Mile High.
  • BetFred with Colorado Rockies: In March 2021, BetFred solidified its presence in Colorado by linking up with the Rockies. The multi-year marketing and sponsorship deal gave BetFred stadium and digital assets at the Rockies’ home field. Also, it included various game-day offerings for baseball fans—game suites, ticket giveaways, and more.
  • PointsBet with Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche: PointsBet joined forces with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment in August 2020 and became the official partner of the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche.

Colorado Sports Betting Timeline

How did Colorado make its way into the legal sports betting scene? Let’s take a look at the timeline of important events to see how it all went down:

  • November 1990: Colorado voters passed the Limited Gaming Initiative to legalize some forms of gambling but only in Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek. The constitutional amendment set rigorous restrictions regarding the betting limits, games allowed, and how long the casinos could stay open.
  • Nov 7, 2000: Citizens of Colorado voted in favor of Referendum E, opening the gateway for the state lottery to start selling tickets for Mega Millions, PowerBall, and other multi-state lottery drawings.
  • 2008: Amendment 50 was passed through the state legislature allowing casinos to raise the maximum amount that can be wagered on single bets from $5 to $100. Casino operators were also permitted to add the games of craps and roulette.
  • March 2014: Governor John Hickenlooper signed a bill to ban greyhound racing.
  • April 2019: State representative Alex Garnett introduced HB 1327 (Proposition DD), which would authorize and tax sports betting. As per the referendum, Colorado land-based casinos would be permitted to offer statewide mobile betting apps and open retail betting lounges.
  • May 2019: The Colorado Senate approved HB 1327. Gov. Jared Polis signed it into law, moving sports betting a step closer to the November elections.
  • November 2019: Proposition DD was approved in a tight vote (51-48), allowing Colorado gambling authorities to form a regulatory framework.
  • May 1, 2020: BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetRivers went live in Colorado with their online sportsbooks. Each of the 33 casinos in the Centennial State can offer sports betting services, both on- and offline. At full market maturity, there will be a plethora of options for Colorado sports bettors.
  • November 2020: Colorado voters passed Amendment 77, allowing locals of Black Hawk, Cripple Creek, and Central City to expand authorized games in casinos and increase (remove) betting limits.

Colorado Sports Betting Rules & Regulations

Following the approval of Proposition DD by the state legislature and voters, sports betting became legal in Colorado. By law, each of the 33 retail casinos in Colorado, mainly clustered in three towns, can apply for a license to offer mobile, online, and retail sportsbooks.

Let’s have a closer look at essential rules and regulations every bettor should know about before signing up with a Colorado-based sportsbook.

Who Can Register With Online Sportsbooks in Colorado?

Pretty much anyone who is 21 or older that is located in Colorado can place bets. You typically don’t have to be in Colorado to sign up or deposit/withdraw money either. Users are not required to register in retail shops and provide in-person documents like in Nevada.

Here are the steps you need to take to get started with a Colorado online sportsbook:

  1. Visit the sportsbook’s website
  2. Find the “Sign Up” or “Register” button
  3. Fill out the registration form (you’ll be asked to provide login credentials along with your personal information—full name, address, cell number, last for digits of your SSN)
  4. With your account up and running, go to the site’s cashier
  5. Open the deposit tab and select a payment method from the list
  6. Input the necessary details and confirm the payment. The funds should reach your account almost instantly
  7. Have fun in your sports betting endeavors and remember to gamble responsibly

Note that some operators will require you to go through additional verification checks after registration (this usually occurs before making a withdrawal request) to validate your identity.

Lastly, offshore betting is not permitted in Colorado. Legally approved sites feature the Division of Gaming logo, indicating that the platform is adequately regulated, and licensed by the state.

Is Geolocation Required for CO Sports Betting?

When the Supreme Court repealed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), sportsbooks became obliged to utilize geolocation trackers for regulatory compliance purposes. That said, betting operators in Colorado are no different in this regard, so your wagers will be declined even if you set one foot outside state borders.

The exact tracking mechanisms vary between different operators, with GeoComply being the go-to choice for most sportsbooks. In most cases, you’ll need to install a location validator if you’re using a desktop-based betting platform. Most standalone iOS and Android apps already have the geolocation tracker embedded into the system, so you probably won’t have to download some kind of software for on-the-go betting.

What Types of Markets Can I Bet On?

Colorado allows wagers on almost any sporting event except for esports, high school sports, and props on collegiate events. For the most part, like with most states, there are very few restrictions when it comes to sports and bet types allowed and most sportsbooks offer a very wide variety.

You can bet on all four professional teams from Colorado—the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Colorado Avalanche, and Denver Nuggets—as well as all other professional teams. You can place wagers on non-mainstream sports and niche markets like golf, tennis, motorsports, soccer, volleyball, and collegiate events, to name just a few.

In the lion’s share of Colorado online sportsbooks, you’ll come across the following types of bets:

Licensing Details & Tax Rates

As of May 1, 2020, Colorado became the 19th state in the country to legalize sports betting. Here’s a detailed look into the regulatory specifics:

  • The state collects a 10% tax on sports betting proceeds, which is among the lowest tax rates in the country.
  • The Department of Revenue is in charge of implementing sports betting regulations; the Colorado Division of Gaming provides oversight over wagering activities.
  • Those who conduct sports betting operations must pay a $10,000 initial nonrefundable fee and a two-year $125,000 licensing fee.
  • Revenue generated from sports betting taxes will fund the Water Plan
  • Implementation Cash Fund and expenses related to the regulation and administration of sports betting in Colorado.

Colorado Sports Betting FAQ

Is sports betting legal in Colorado?
Yes, it is. Voters approved Proposition DD to legalize nationwide sports betting in November 2019. The first online sportsbooks went live on May 1, 2020.
